Isn't life expensive at the moment ?! Even the price of a Freddo - the universal barometer of inflation - currently 25p, is expected to rise to 36p by the end of the year !
And with the average cost of a wedding currently sitting at £20,775 without the additional costs of an engagement ring or a honeymoon (Bridebook UK Wedding Report 2024) getting married can be a significant investment in more ways than one.
When chatting to couples they are increasingly either delaying or thinking long and hard about the financial implications of getting married BUT it doesn't have to be that way.
The cost of the venue can be significant BUT one of the many joys of a Humanist Wedding is the ability to get married anywhere (with the landowners consent), you can exchange vows in a field, on a beach or even at the bottom of your garden - I love an outdoor wedding! - which can instantly reduce the cost of your special day whilst also creating a unique, personal and memorable space for your ceremony - definitely food for thought.

Spent an interesting day at the NEC this week for Spring Fair - outside of Quirky Ceremonies Mr Q and I have an independent gift shop in Kirkby Stephen.
I was obviously delighted that the carpet had been laid to match the Quirky colours and had to take a photo ! I’m wearing my oldest, comfiest Dr Martens to save my feet from pain and blisters- we walked miles !!
Interesting to see the card companies finally catching up with wedding diversity and individuality, it’s taking a while but there are glimmers….
Q. What is going to be huge this year for celebrations ?
A. Balloons 🎈 Balloons are huge this year in incredible colours and shapes, if balloons are your thing the sky really is the limit 🩷x

No, me neither but every day is a school day - it is also National Croissant Day and it would be rude to celebrate one and not the other wouldn’t it ? 🥳

An interesting article in today’s Observer relating to living funerals. As celebrants we are perfectly placed to help create a memorable event however you want to celebrate or remember your life.
If a living funeral is not for you but you like the idea of having some input into your funeral we can help with that too by meeting up and chatting about who and what is important to you, what you would like to say or include - you can even record your own eulogy or words of wisdom/warning if you wish. Together we can then write a funeral which can be lodged safely and withdrawn when the time comes.
Definitely food for thought ….

Wishing you Good Health this Burns Night, Burns wrote,
"The birth-place of Valour, the country of Worth. Wherever I wander, wherever I rove, the hills of the Highlands for ever I love"
Whilst we have swapped the Highlands for the Cumbrian Fells, Scotland holds a special place in our hearts too as we were married on a beach in North West Scotland on Burns night. Windy - yes, cold - most definitely but so beautiful and fabulously atmospheric.
A Humanist wedding really can be anywhere!
The Dr Martens were a must and are still amongst my favourite boots, I'll definitely be wearing them today - the black and red taffeta skirt perhaps not today but some day soon........

I went to see a film recently and a thought occurred - wouldn't it be amazing to get married in a cinema ?!

Just imagine,

Sending out tickets to the most anticipated event of the year

Guests arriving in all their finery as if to a film premiere, full red carpet as the paparazzi snap away.

Great music acoustics for all those favourite songs

A movie screen for any photos's or video's you want to share

Popcorn for all your guests as they settle into their seats

Bridal couple arriving down the aisle as the lights dim

A wonderful warm ceremony celebrating your lives together so far and your plans and hopes for the future as you make your vows of commitment to each other in a quirky and intimate setting.

You could truly make it unique, from invitation and glamorous arrival, to fabulous ceremony and final credits - the story would be all yours

Themes could be wide and varied, Great Gatsby, Back To The Future, Labyrinth, Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland, Star Wars, The Greatest Showman, Disney, Bonnie and Clyde - the list is endless.

For me it would have to be Hollywood Glamour, highly lacquered finishes, metallics, rich fabrics, dramatic Art Deco, beautiful stylised dresses and suits and of course the quirky addition of a pair of Dr Martens - What theme would you choose ?
