Over the slightly quieter Winter months we offer each of our full sized weddings a private tasting session here at Milkshed. The majority take place in January and February but we’ve had a few over the last couple of weeks. It is always so lovely to meet our couples in person, often after months (and sometimes over a year!) of communicating via email and phone.

For the menu tasting, we prepare the actual dishes our couples are planning for their wedding day and we chat through their day as a whole, gathering details and information so we can ensure their day runs smoothly and is exactly as they are imagining. We believe that this quality one on one time is special, and unlike a group tasting with a generic menu, it allows us to really personalise the experience. Feedback from our couples shows that they agree!!

Dinner parties!!

In the Winter months when we have slightly less weddings we cater and organise a lot of beautiful celebratory dinner parties. This weekend just gone we catered over three days for a corporate pre-Christmas celebration at one of the stunning properties. It was our second year catering for this lovely group and they were just fab!

Tasting time!!

Our unique, individual menu tastings are one of the reasons our couples love the menu planning element of their wedding journey. Each of our full size wedding couples get a complimentary tasting as part of their booking - dishes can be chosen in advance from our sample menus or a bespoke menus can be designed ahead of the day, so you get to taste YOUR wedding menu.

We don’t believe in group tastings with fixed menus. This process is about YOU so we want to make it as personal as possible. We love getting to know our couples and chatting through the logistics of the day, it is one of our favourite elements of catering weddings.

Tastings take place at our premises in the countryside near Honiton in Devon. If you are travelling from afar we can offer fabulous accommodation onsite via - lots of couples use the tasting as an excuse for a getaway, and our Hideaway is a great base (it also has a rather fabulous hot tub and fire pit!).

This weekend’s Fillet of Beef with crispy oxtail, dauphinoise, roasted cherry vine tomatoes, wilted spinach and beef jus. Lots of clean plates and smiley faces all round.

Thanks to and for the great ingredients, for the plates etc., for providing such an atmospheric venue and most importantly to H&S for trusting us with your wedding catering.

This week we have also catered , and The Big House Co. And who says Oct/Nov are quieter months for weddings and hospitality!

DESSERT INSPIRATION

This strawberry and verbena cheesecake with ginger crumb has proved a popular addition to our menus this year. It combines decadence with fresh flavours and it looks lovely and pretty when plated up.

We are currently menu writing for our 2025 weddings - this dish is likely to be a keeper but we are thinking of adding another cheesecake option to contrast. Honeycomb has been floated as an idea…!

In addition to our sample menus with loads of great dishes, we often go off menu, particularly for weddings when couples can add favourite ingredients or we can help create nods to special foodie memories they’ve enjoyed together. Adds something extra special!

An extra special day yesterday!

We catered the wedding of the utterly lovely Josh and Abi - Josh was part of the Milkshed team when we very first started out. He is now ‘all grown up’ and he has found the perfect match in Abi. We are so honoured they trusted us to take care of their catering.

During Josh’s speech he presented owners Katie and Mark with some celebratory bottles 🥂🍷 for their 15th wedding anniversary, also yesterday!

Thanks to for helping us get a phone snap of the four of us. The very start of marriage for Josh and Abi and 15 years in for Katie and Mark - both special and worthy of celebration. ❤️

We pour our hearts and souls into Milkshed and from owners, Katie and Mark, to our most junior member of the team, we all put maximum effort and love into your weddings and events.

September is flying by!

People keep saying ‘wedding season must be coming to a close’ - it makes us laugh as ‘wedding season’ is really a thing of the past. September is always one of our busiest months for weddings, and we have plenty more to come in October, November and December.

Autumn weddings with gorgeous Autumnal styling and light are SO popular now - we saw some amazing ones last year and can’t wait to see what this year brings.

Winter weddings can be utterly beautiful. Couples are less hung up on whether it might rain and it means they can embrace cozy, indoor weddings with candlelight, roaring fires and rich colours where there is no need for a ‘plan B’.

Whatever you are planning, we are keen to hear your ideas and plans!

We get a fair few requests for fully veggie/vegan weddings and we are more than happy to accommodate. We’ve got loads of delicious options on our sample menus or we can chat about your favourite ingredients or any special memory dishes and create something more bespoke.

Summertime!!

A brief of colourful vegetarian food to share…
This vibrant starter went down a treat and we had some lovely feedback:

We would like to thank Claire and her team very much for serving delicious food and canapes to us at our daughter’s wedding. The food was delicious and greatly appreciated by us and all our wedding guests.
We had a fantastic day and we loved our menu choices.

Canapés!!

Hands up if you LOVE canapés! One of the best parts of the wedding day in our opinion - drinks flowing, guests chatting and lots of delicious bites circulating.

Photos - lamb koftas with minted yogurt and Parmesan and truffle arancini. Just two of the lovely options on our canapé sample menus (we also take special requests!!)

Desserts!

These can be one of the hardest decisions when choosing a wedding menu. Do you go for a family favourite like sticky toffee pudding, a trio of desserts (to cover all bases!) or something decadent and luxurious like this gorgeous dark chocolate delice?

CARVING FUN TIMES

If you are looking for something informal and fun for your wedding or event, you might consider an interactive option such as nominating a carver from each table to don a chef’s hat and apron and carve a joint of meat for guests! In the warmer months, we can do this with gorgeous hearty salads and the Winter we can provide bowls of crispy roast potatoes and seasonal veg to accompany the main event!

These whole legs of lamb went down a storm at a recent wedding (with plenty of laughter and chatting). We can also do other joints of meat, or a sharing fish or veggie option. It definitely creates a sociable family-style atmosphere and if guests don’t already know each other it helps to break the ice!!
