A glorious morning dawned on our final wedding of 2023: Jan and Graham enjoyed a simple but beautiful weekend wedding at Bysshe to help us round off a remarkable season. Mark and I want to express our heartfelt thanks to all the fantastic couples who chose our place to host their very special days and also to thank all the wonderful caterers, bar staff, speciality goods providers, florists, event stylists, prop hire companies, bands, tent providers, photographers, and everyone else who has helped us have such a wonderful season.
We will be concentrating on preparing the farm for the autumn and oncoming winter season. There are still some dates available for weekend weddings in 2024 and 2025, so do please get in touch.
Allan Bailey provided lovely music. Angelica’s Cakes made the unbelievably delicious wedding cake.

Two drivers, one tractor: Our vintage Massey Ferguson has been pulling its weight with Mark in the sunshine this week as we make the most of ideal farming weather. So yesterday was an exciting day; after a very lengthy and thorough review of Marriage Law in England and Wales, the recommendations from the Law Commission have now been put forward to the Government.

The exciting news is that the proposals are that legal marriage in England and Wales moves to an officiant-based system and no longer be determined by only religion, faith or location. This is very positive news for Independent Celebrants who will be able to offer legally binding wedding ceremonies to all couples including those of mixed faith, no faith, secular or just to have the opportunity to choose how they wish to be married in a way that is meaningful to them.

The Government have one year to respond to the Law Commission recommendations and any change to the current law could then take up to two years to be implemented as the wheels in Government turn slowly. However, this is definitely a positive step for change which is long overdue.

All couples deserve to have a legal marriage that is meaningful to them so I will be contacting my MP for East Surrey to ensure I have her continued support and do everything I can to support this potentially very positive change to the current archaic marriage law.

If you support the recommendations of legally binding celebrant-led ceremonies, please share this badge across your social platforms and perhaps contact your MP for their support? The more people that support the recommendations, the more chance there is of making a change.
