East Riding of Yorkshire Council announced in March 2012 that they intended to bulldoze the Floral Hall in Hornsea and replace it with a car park and toilets. After an outpouring of fury by the townsfolk of Hornsea the Council agreed, at a meeting on 13th March 2012, to give the Community six months to come up with a viable plan to save the Floral Hall and, if that plan was acceptable to the Counc
il, the freehold of the Floral Hall would be handed over to the Community to run as a going concern. A steering group was formed (Cllr Barbara Jefferson, Cllr John Whittle, Lion Ron Bee, Lion Pat Bee and Keith Twigg, a member of the local Rotary Club). The steering group presented the first draft of the business plan to ERYC at the end of July 2012. They subsequently appointed eight directors of a newly formed company the "Floral Hall Community Centre". The eight original directors were Richard Carmichael, Anne Padgett, Kathy Webb, Keith Whittle, Andy Bullard, Lucy Myers, Brett North and Rachel Beck. The current directors are Richard Carmichael, Anne Padgett, Andy Bullard, Brett North, Leisha Wallace-Marshall, Pauline Spensley, Rosie Thompson and Peta Kilbane. This means that it is run by, and for, the local community and we rely on Hornsea people to support the hall in a variety of ways-
