Its Shoreham-by-Seas farmers market this Saturday and I’ll be there with bunches and jars of flowers 💐
There will be lots of stalls selling fresh homemade produce, come check it out if you are passing, grab some flowers 💐 and a tasty treat for the weekend 🧁🍩🍯🫔🥗🍎🥨🍖😍

I love Umbellifers 😍 carrot, fennel, ammi, achillea, dill, orlaya…..are the ones I like to have every year.
Daucus carota ‘Dara’, is one of my favourites…..and this year it seems to be getting noticed more then usual 🤩 Grown every year in the poly it nearly reaches the top. What I don’t end up using I dry……it kind of closes in on its self but adds lovely structure to dried arrangements. Seeds have already germinated for next year as it’s one of the biennials I like to grow 🥳

Everything in the Polytunnel is doing ok, may it continue🤞….my tiny Dahlias are all tucked up in their new bed.
Everything else went into the garden today…..Later then previous years so plants are half the size at the mo 😬, just crossing fingers some good weather will speed them up….plus sowing of some Biennial seeds 🤗

My poor crop of Ranunculus has come to an abrupt end….will try better next year 😃👍
Weeding and bed prep in the garden….slowly starting to plant stuff out 🥰
All my biennials and hardy annuals started last year have flowered early…all my spring sown are still soooooo tiny compared to this time last year…no two years are the same….
I try to stick to a plan of planting, well several, cause the first one never works out, so I have to have two backup plans…
I sow more or less the same plants….but every year the weather manages to mix things up for me 😂
I’m guessing every grower is in the same position unless you have very controlled conditions…👍

Things are slowly starting to come to life in the polytunnel….Sweet William is looking good, my Ranunculus…not so…complete fail with those this year, second year in a row 😩…
I absolutely love Bronze fennel 😍….the first year I grew it, it ended up being sacrificial…covered in aphids, then ladybirds..then the bit I have now popped up in another bed…..grew massive and for the past two years its got in the way of all my tunnel photos 🥰 …..I don’t even like cutting the leaves back because when I brush past it smells so lovely.
Now I’m itching to rip the Ranunculus out and pop the rest of my Chrysanthemums into their bed. The sunny weekend also meant lots of potting up, but everything feels slower to get going this year….

My tulips never flower at the same time as each other….so the ones that have started are being whipped out and dry stored to be used in the future when the others catch up🌷✅
Sadly we don’t have a flower cooler but this old kitchen fridge has made such a difference at this time of year 👏

🌷 The tulips are on the way 👏

🌷 I’m aiming for them to be ready for my first market of the year which will be Adur Markets Shoreham-by-Seas farmers market on the second Saturday of April 🥳

🌷 But….if they turn up earlier then that I might be able to attend the Artisan one at the end of March 👏 only time will tell 🤞🤞🤞

Polytunnel cleaning 🤩
It’s been 3 years 😬…..the layer of dirt and grime has become quite thick.
Our Polytunnel is in a tucked away position, gets sun, but not full….sheltered enough to protect it from any high winds…but is subject to debris from surrounding trees.
2 hours later with an old indoor/soft broom and some Fairy liquid Its now back to its former glory and I could eat my dinner off it 😆🤪🥰
Do you clean your Polytunnel? and if so what do you use/recommend? Also going to give the inside a coating of Sunclear, to help disperse condensation 👍

Annual cutting of the Willow…
Willow is so fast growing that cutting it back will provide nice long stems for the end of the year, not cutting it means it will continue to grow from existing stems and turn into a massive plant…great if you need an instant hedge, but not if you need it to make lots of wreaths and thats exactly what I need it for for this spring 🤩

The local deer also like to get involved, but they seemed to have missed the memo about not munching it all the way back to nothing 🙁
Also I grabbed some Wisteria to make bases for next years dried flower wreaths….happy to leave a long January behind 🤩👍

The love hate relationship I have with Ranunculus continues for the third year 🥳
Potted up and moved these out of my bedroom today, these are my second sowing of Ranunculus. The first were from farmer gracy, i’ve bought from there before and had success but this year its not gone to plan 🤔, did everything the same, started them back at the beginning of October as normal, but only a few started to grow 😩….I then panicked and bought some more again from ….all popped up in the comfort of my house. They have now been moved to the greenhouse and sitting comfortably with my few surviving Stocks.
I have a small rodent problem in the green house and nothing i’ve tried has put them off of all the tasty shoots……not too bad on most plants but my Stocks are a one flower spike and if a pesky vole nibbles the top then thats that. We had a similar rodent problem in our loft recently, I purchased a small ultrasonic mouse repeller and the rodents disappeared 🥳…..so, i bought one for the greenhouse 🤞

Now its back to planning and prepping, repairing and cleaning…..cannot wait to have flowers again in April 🤩

Sadly Shoreham’s Christmas market has been cancelled this Saturday 🙁 due to the bad weather forecasted….you can still pick up one of my wreaths in Horsham though 🤩🌲🤩🌲🤩

The weather is looking s bit 😬 on Saturday for Shoreham’s Christmas market….but I’ve got fresh wreaths and table decorations amongst other things so I’m going to brave it along with lots of other small businesses 🥳
