As Christmas approaches for many in my industry it brings a time of reflection. I think about all of the families I have served who have lost their loved ones and are having their first Christmas without them. I think of those who lost their loved ones near or over the festive period and how it will never be the same for them. I think about my former mum in law who preferred to be in her own at Christmas because that was the right thing for her.
Whichever way you choose to spend Christmas if you have had a loss, there is no right or wrong way to do it, do what’s right for you . As I always say though, it’s okay to be sad, but don’t stay there. Christmas also brings an increase in domestic violence and su***de. Did you know you don’t have to have a full service at the crematorium, church or burial ground? Some people
These days are opting for something more personal to their loved ones, such as more informal services in clubs or community centres followed by a shorter service
Of commital. Some funeral directors even have their own chapels for smaller services. For a more personalized approach just discuss it with your funeral director and celebrant

As a Celebrant my job doesn’t end when a loved one is cremated. I take pride in the aftercare of my families, and part of that can be the interment of ashes some months later. I recently had the honour of meeting up with a family in these circumstances and a family member has asked me to share her feedback.as ever it is my honour to serve families.

Hello Sharon, I simply cannot thank you enough for leading the interment yesterday. Everything you did and said was perfect, just what we needed and wonderfully fitting for my sister. My Mum and Dad are SO extremely grateful for you and everyone there yesterday kept saying how lovely you were. Today I had a service at Duckinfiekd Crematorium. I had never been before and it one of the older ones I have ever visited. It was, however a lovely place to have a very intimate funeral service and I was very honoured to be asked to officiate it.thank you Pearson Funeral Service

So many people ask why bother having a celebrant led wedding. Surely it’s just more hassle and expense? Well let me tell you, having gone through the process this week, it was worth every penny.
In Monday we had our legal ceremony which cost probably a hundred pounds in total. It was beautiful and intimate with our sons as witnesses and I was still able to wear a beautiful dress and feel special- I cried my eyes out.on Saturday we had our celebrant service and there was so much love in the room . Our celebrant made it so there were happy tears, lots of laughs and the service really reflected who we are as a couple- priceless! So I would say if you want a really bespoke and unique service celebrant led is the way to go every time!

As part of Dying Matters week I will proudly attending the Melia Powell Funeral Services drop in sessions on Thursday 9 May where there will also be members of the hospice team available.
