A big warm welcome to our two new members of Team Handmade!
The awesome Hanna joins us as our lead florist and the lovely Michaela joins us as a florist's assistant. We are really excited to be working with such happy smiley people. Having an extra pair of hands to call on during busy periods means we can take on more wedding, funeral and events work whilst keeping the shop stocked.
Also we'd like to say a huge well done to our Saturday lass and lad, Ruby and Will, who have got great GCSE results today which means their future plans are going full steam ahead! Great work guys!

We've had such a busy week with flowers I've not had time to post on here! This week we've sold more flowers than any week other than Valentine's! Thank you for all the support you guys have shown us - it's been awesome!

Open as normal today after yesterday's fake news fiasco.
Please come into town and support independent shops and cafés. Many of us had to close yesterday and as independent shops we don't have multiple branches in other towns that remained open. When we close there is no income.

Craft market day is my favourite day of the month!

Earlier this week we had the honour of making a floral tribute for the funeral of one of our customers.
Our customer's mum requested a basket of bright and colourful flowers, including sunflowers, that looked like it had just been collected from the garden. We were also asked to use flowers that would 'dance' as they were carried down the aisle.
Despite having the unexpected loss of a family member to deal with our customer's sister came into the shop the next day to thank us for the "perfect" flowers - that meant the world to myself and Ruth.

Look at these absolute beauties! We've lost our Ruth behind these extra large posies and bouquets! Today's flowers include giant delphiniums, beautiful sunflowers, scented stocks, super bright atomic roses and much more.

We bought really well at the wholesalers this morning and picked up some bargains. As always when we pass our savings on to our lovely customers. During these difficult financial times it can be hard to justify treating yourself to flowers so we always try our best to provide top quality flowers that last and last for bargain prices.

Today's £10, £15 and £20 arrangements are the biggest and best we've done! Be quick and grab yourself a bargain!

The thing about small businesses is there is always a back story. Some of you may have noticed me being a bit wobbly on my feet. Not many of you will know that I wanted a life working in sport but life and sport threw me a curved ball.
I suffered a life changing injury whilst competing in Finland. That injury ended my able-bodied sports life. I then took up disability sport and 8 years ago this week I headed out on a world record attempt to push myself the 900 miles from Lands End to John O'Groats in a wheelchair.
I wrote a blog about the record attempt. Be warned, it's written how I talk, a tad sweary, blunt and not always the most PC! But if you'd like to have a read... Here's the link...

I'm Anthony Gotts, this is my blog about Wheelchair Athletics. I compete in events from 100m right up to Marathon and in 2016 I completed LEJOG.

Thank You Huddersfield!

A heartfelt thank you to each and every person who liked, commented, shared or visited today. You guys gave us our busiest ever 3 hours!
You saved my business from a very big financial loss. I found it quite difficult to ask for help, I'd much rather be helping somebody else!
The response has been amazing. It was lovely to see so many of our regular customers in the shop today. I'm overwhelmed by the number of new customers we met.
I had a lump in my throat when I saw Matt & Lara had made a special trip into town, this couple gave Handmade our first full wedding floral job back in December and continue to support us now. There were a few tears when Grahame phoned up and bought four jars of flowers for us to gift to the next four customers in the shop, his only ask was they do something kind for somebody else.

Lastly thank you from the bottom of my heart to Sam, Ruth, Tray and Matty for helping in the shop today. Although I'm skint now, I'll remember this when I'm a millionaire 😉🤣

Today we attended our first ever festival. We put in so much hard work, my full team have been absolute warriors this week and today.

Unfortunately due to the weather the festival didn't seem to get even 10% of the footfall expected. This has left us with an enormous amount of stock including fresh flowers. I also have my largest ever wage bill to pay for all of the hours my awesome team have put into preparing for and staffing this event.

So Huddersfield, I'm directly asking for your help. I've never done this before, I prefer to give my help to others rather than ask for it! If you'd like to support a small business now is the time to do it. I'll be opening the shop from 11am until 2pm tomorrow, Sunday the 16th June and then open as normal all next week. Please pop in and make a purchase if you can. We particularly need to sell more fresh flowers as these have a shelf life and as everyone knows we won't sell any fresh flowers we do not believe will last at least 10 days. We also have a lot of ducks, birds and other woodwork to shift.
