Satisfying job... peeling the outer, furry covering of Italian grown Colibri poppies. Sometimes they need a little help to allow the ruffled petals to unfurl fully. When these open out, they're going to be stunning!

A look back at some of this summer's bridal bouquets.
I only have a few late summer weddings left and then it's on to all things Autumnal and (dare I say it) that festive time of year when my fingernails become reacquainted with pine resin! I have a few wedding's later in the year, but feel that the summer 'rush' is slowing down and giving me more time to breath. I'm currently filling that time with consultations for yet more fabulous weddings!
I feel lucky to be doing a job that I love. I'm so grateful that I get to create the inspired floral visions of my lovely couples, that every day I get to work with such beautiful raw materials and I have the opportunity to meet amazing wedding industry professionals and venue owners along the way.

A beautiful large casket spray for a recent final farewell. Garden style with a wild feel - not stiff and formal - just like a piece of a much-loved garden. I don’t work from a brochure for tribute flowers. Instead, we have a chat about your loved one and what flowers meant to them. We talk about how you’d like to say goodbye through the special meanings and significances of flowers, colours, scent and memories.
Get in touch for a chat. If you prefer, you can pop me an email with an outline of what you would like, the funeral date and location, your contact details and a good time for us to talk and I’ll call you.
Textured memorial tribute heart filled with yellow and cream roses, dendrobium and cymbidium orchids, astilbe, and star of Bethlehem. I added small dancing heads of flowering grasses as well as grass leaves weaving amongst the flowers to accentuate the heart shape. Intricately detailed and delicate.

Laying out my ‘ingredients’ for my bridal bouquet flower recipe. For a beautiful blue and white wedding in early April.
There’s a lot of preparation for creating wedding flowers!
Firstly there’s the interpretation of what the bride and groom would like. I do this with a consultation, photos and a catch up chat before the big day. I need to think about the colours and the textures, about what flowers and foliage will be available and how that fits with the budget. I need to be prepared to find substitutes if I can’t find what I need. I’m VERY fussy about colours - I think about the colour palette as a whole and how the colours work together.
Then there’s my recipes - I need to calculate how many stems I need of each type. After sourcing the stems in the right quantities, I need to order them so that I get them on the right days before the wedding - some stems are better completely fresh, some are better when they’ve had a couple of days to open and mature. So each wedding may have multiple wholesale deliveries across a number of days.
When the stems arrive, they all need preparing in a way florists call ‘conditioning’. Each type of flower has its own conditioning method - the best way of keeping the stem fresh, healthy and looking it’s best for the wedding day. Some stems, like Tweedia, have a long and laborious conditioning process, others, like grasses, are simple.
Finally, the stems need prepping ready for creating a bouquet. Laying out all ready to start. There’s a lot of work takes place before I even start to create a bouquet.
