With no prior choir-leading (or real teaching, even) experience, I recently started working with BUSKERTEERS CHOIR. I was looking for a new challenge, and weirdly - it ended up finding me.
Out of the blue I was contacted by Andy Small, the founder, asking me if I’d be interested in giving it a go. Due to the aforementioned lack of experience, I was naturally hesitant. But I’m so glad I heard him out and gave it a try. I met with them, first on Zoom, then, later at their HQ just outside of Colchester. This was then followed by some awesome training and practice runs with some of my fellow leader’s choirs. They gave me all the support and knowledge I needed in order to open up 4 of my own choirs last month. I now LOVE it.
The reason for this post is because they are looking at expanding into even more new territories. I know that I’m friends with a LOT of musicians on here, so I thought the opportunity may be of interest to some of you, or to somebody you know perhaps. I
t’s an amazing team of people who I’m very proud to call my friends. The members are also all ace and, just like us, all music lovers who just want to sing their hearts out.

This was an unforgettable night. But it started off as a difficult day…. The M25 was NOT kind to me on the way down to London. I got stuck in 3 hours of standstill traffic, making what should have been a 2 hour journey 5 hours! I was so worried I wouldn’t make the gig and be able to have this special moment. Thankfully, the road eventually got cleared and I was back on my way!
I am so grateful for the love and support from my immensely talented new friends at BUSKERTEERS CHOIR — you’ve all welcomed me with open arms (literally! They’re all huggers!) Thank you for this opportunity. I will do my very best to make you proud.
Here’s an example of how they’ve had my back from day one… I selected this song as a tribute to my mum who I love very much. This is her favourite song by her favourite band, ‘With or Without You’ by U2. I was slightly nervous because I had just one opportunity to do it justice LIVE in this beautiful venue, in front of hundreds of choir members. I never expected that they would be by my side backing me up with these beautiful harmonies, and the choir joining in was just incredible - like something out of a film.

Oh, what a night indeed! 🎉 Myke the Sax 🎷 and I had a really great time playing for a fully-booked, packed out Peppermill Bar & Kitchen in Buntingford last night 🙌 We can barely be seen in this video because everybody was up dancing all night long 🕺 If anyone who was there has any more pics or videos, please send them over - we’d love to see them! 💛
