Dear Supporter of Upwood Village Hall Performing Arts Events,

Do you miss the concerts which used to be held in UVH?

We are working with a group of people, led by John Kelly of Little Raveley, who are interested in starting up concerts in the hall once again.

As before, it is intended to concentrate on artists from the world of folk, roots and acoustic music although this may broaden into other musical genres if there is sufficient interest.

At this stage it would be really helpful to know whether or not you would be interested in attending concerts in the hall again.

We would be grateful if you would reply to this post as soon as possible with a simple YES or NO.

Please let us know if you'd be interested in helping with the concerts, e.g. putting out chairs, putting up staging, taking down afterwards, etc.

Many thanks in anticipation,

UVH Performing Arts

It is with a heavy heart and great reluctance that I have decided to cease UVH Performing Arts Events concerts at the end of November 2021. The final concerts will be Salt House (21st October), Fara (28th October) and Daoiri Farrell (11th November). It is clear from the reduced level of ticket sales for the autumn 2021 programme that many people are still not ready to return to the sort of intimate atmosphere that has made concerts in the hall so special and I cannot envisage this changing in the near future. Added to this I am finding it increasingly difficult to find enough members for the stage build team which is essential for preparing and clearing the hall before and after concerts.
UVH Performing Arts Events began in November 2009 when it became part of the now defunct ACT (Arts in Cambs on Tour) scheme which provided subsidised acts to village halls across the county. When this scheme lost its funding in autumn 2013 I decided to try “going it alone” with booking artists directly through their agents or the artists themselves. I decided to concentrate on booking acts from the acoustic, folk and roots circuit as this was an area in which I had a keen interest and acts from this genre had gone down particularly well when booked at the hall through the ACT scheme.
The success of the concerts has surpassed my wildest expectations. A loyal audience base was built up over time with the vast majority of concerts selling out. The hall itself has become known on the touring circuit as one where artists, many with international reputations, would receive a warm welcome and a receptive audience. 74 concerts or similar events have been staged under the banner of UVH Performing Arts Events.
I would like to thank everyone who has helped over the years. It has involved a lot of extra people organising things such as lighting, sound, raffle ticket selling, stage building and dismantling, putting out chairs, advertising (special thanks to the Ramsey & Warboys Informer newspaper), refreshments, providing overnight accommodation etc. etc. It has been a real team effort.
