Those you can not commit to a years college course and who would like to attend floristry classes that fit around their own schedules. Flourish has been a long term dream of mine. I h

ave been a floral designer for over fourteen years. My training includes Jane Packer Flowers and Mcqueens flower schools. I ran my own wedding and event business for eight years. After having some time out to have my children I wanted to create a London type flower school in Sussex. A school that teaches you the basic principles of floristry, but incorporates our own flower philosophies, innovative design, stylish installations and fashionable displays. Our floristry style is drawn from inspiration from the latest catwalk looks, interior design and of course nature. The school has been designed so that it caters for professional florists, flower arrangers, students who would like to enter the floristry profession and flower enthusiasts. Based in Hurstpierpoint West Sussex our classes range from taster two hour sessions to a ten week career course. We also offer a range of stylish vase and ceramics, as well as floristry tools all can be purchased through our website.

This month we have our last career course and Introduction to Floristry workshop, a chance for more students to turn their passion into profitable and sustainable businesses. I am looking forward to sharing their journeys with you all. 🍂🍂

✨Little Announcement✨

This year my personal life has been turned upside down multiple times. At the start of the year everything seemed dark while now lighter days seem more regular. It’s taken a lot of time for me to reflect on my life going forward and I have made the decision to close my wonderful flower school at the end of the year.

This was certainly not an easy decision. Floristry has been such a huge and joyful part of my life for 20 years, but new chapters lie ahead and a new direction in my career which I am excited about.

I want to thank each and every one of you who have been to the school. The community that has been built of florists, growers and friends is one that I will treasure forever.

I started out by teaching my friends how to make a Christmas wreath back in 2015 and while looking after my small boys and having my daughter, I enjoyed it so much I started planning on how I could teach a few workshops. Fast forward to now, my eldest son is as tall as me and through your support that little dream became a reality which has gone on to help so many people enter this beautiful industry.

I can’t thank you enough.

My last class with be a Christmas workshop on Monday 2nd December. From now until then I plan to use this platform to share my remaining courses, plus some wonderful memories over what has been an incredible journey.

Open Morning

Join us for our summer open morning on Saturday 20th July, 10am-12.00pm

This morning is for anyone who is interested in flowers, pursuing a career in floristry, learning about growing or who simply want to expand a hobby.

The morning will start with a talk on the floristry industry, how we can be more eco friendly with our arrangements. Then I will give a demonstration on how to create a bridal bouquet. Emma from Pitfields will give a tour of the beautiful cutting garden & answer all your growing questions, before we serve a good slab of cake. There will be lots of opportunities to ask lots of questions.

Garden Roses

I’ve taken a little step back from social media in recent weeks due to my personal life. Over the last seven months I have been through quite an ordeal & although I don’t want to use this platform for sharing all aspects of my life, it has been at times challenging sharing happy images of my work when my personal life has felt so dark.

But a new chapter is nearly here and as ever I am so grateful to be working in an industry which keeps you connected to nature, colour & art.

I am as ever in awe of how strong women can be and I’ve even surprised myself of my strength over the last year. A big thanks to my team who have got me through to almost the other side.

To anyone surviving right now, sending you lots of love & strength.

Here is to survival and flowers, as let’s face it they are bloody amazing.

Hello 👋

I’m taking up the challenge from my lovely friend Tara . Tara & I set up a women’s in business group in our local area and throughly enjoyed our first meet up last week. Such a fantastic way to spend an evening listening to other female founders & hearing about their journeys.

We talked about the importance of putting yourself out there, even if we don’t find it that easy.

So here we go. A hello to all my followers past and new. I’m Alicia, the founder of Flourish Sussex Flower School which opened its doors at the end of 2018. After working in the industry for 15 years I decided to turn my hand to teaching and I absolutely love it. I’ve been so fortunate to teach so many incredible students over the last five years. Our Flourish community of florists and growers continues to expand and is a wonderful support to all.

A massive thank you to everyone who continues to follow my creative page. I love what I do and find nature brings us back to what is important in life.

In less than two weeks we will be kick starting our two week intensive career course. This begins with our Foundation course for week one followed by our wedding course for week two.

Weddings are without a doubt the biggest money maker in our industry. Transforming a reception space with flowers, takes imagination, creativity, confidence and planning. This is what we teach our students on our five day intensive course. Floristry which is artwork. We push boundaries. We bring the outside inside. As a group we create breath taking seasonal sculptures and creating unforgettable scenes all using sustainable methods.

Over the course of five days we will teach you the following:

A cloud
Ceremony display, with lots of elements including meadow boxes, urns, hanging installations.
Bridal bouquet, with a model coming in for a photo shoot.
Bowl display, with tablescaping.
Staircase installation

Plus a wedding florist graduate will come to give a talk about working in the industry and give a demonstration.
