Set within 10 acres of enchanting gardens, surrounded by serene Suffolk countryside, our Grade I listed 15th and 16th century, moated Tudor Hall is a hidden sanctuary steeped in historic charm. Once home to explorer Bartholomew Gosnold, renowned for founding Jamestown, the first permanent English-speaking settlement in the United States, Otley Hall has been lovingly restored by its new owners and

remains a cherished family home today. Following an inspired reinvention, we are delighted to announce the reopening of Otley Hall as an exclusive, bespoke and intimate wedding & events venue, alongside the launch of our new destination café, Martha's Barn, which offers delicious local and seasonal menus and speciality coffee. Just two hours’ drive from London and on the doorstep of Suffolk’s scenic coastline, Otley Hall is a truly unique venue for special celebrations.

With it being All Hallows’ Eve it’s an apt time to draw attention to one of a few marks and symbols or ‘apotropaic’ marks found here at the hall. Meaning ‘evil-averting’ they were aimed to protect against unwelcome spirits.

This one is found on wood once part of a plank-and-muntin screen, now next to our Great Hall’s grand fireplace. Whilst it may defend against witches, ghosts inside certainly aren’t deterred…

🍎 We’ve had lovely Andy from .cyder here this week collecting the first batch of apples for next year’s Otley Hall Cider.

🍏 So far already 500kg of apples have been collected, with some of our cider variety trees still needing to ripen up.

🍎 Those who have visited over the summer will know that it’s been highly popular, so much so (and quite coincidentally) we sold the last bottles this week!

🍏 Next year’s is already being greatly anticipated by all of the team here, and judging by the BUMPER crop, should be quite the delivery once it’s ready.

🍎 A massive thank you and big appreciation to Andy, Carl and the CydeFX team for their passion, knowledge and commitment to local, traditional cider - and not letting Suffolk’s special apples go to waste.

Why not come and support our open gardens for the NGS this Sunday?

As I’m sure you can agree, they are looking at their best, and in aid of such a great cause how can one refuse.

With the weather set to be like today (a bit iffy!) it’s just an even greater reason to come out and enjoy the most of the weekend.

will be open serving hot and cold drinks, cake and light snacks and our fully licensed bar will be open.

We can’t wait to welcome all of you, and share the very best of our gardens for such a worthy cause!

🎭 SUNDAY! 🎭

Don’t forget Quantum Theatre’s production of Great Expectations is happening here at 4pm! You still have time to purchase tickets and join us. At least the weather is looking warm! 🌞 Tickets can be purchased on Quantum Theatre’s website quantumtheatre.co.uk and the link will be in our story.

For this production we welcome you bringing your own food and snacks as the cafe won’t be open serving food. However, all drinks - alcoholic or otherwise - must be purchased at our bar.

We will also have a lovely selection of Simply Ice Cream ice creams available during the interval!

It’s set to be another fantastic afternoon, so make sure not to miss out!

This BEAUTY ‘Treasure Trove’ is definitely the highlight of the garden this week! Flowering just once a year, its cascades of perfectly scented blooms are to behold and enjoy for the all too brief time it wows us with its spellbinding performance.

On a day as lovely as this, why not come and have some lunch, enjoy the magnificence of the hall and experience this belle for yourself. 🌹
