The Last Last Peonies from the Field for a H**p Fest! this is another reason to keep side buds on your peonies. These are sidebuds from my very late variety Dresden Pink cut Thursday. The side buds tend to open a week (more if they’re still on the plant) behind the main buds. These were on plants that I’d cut the main flower away already. The size of them, though!! They’d make a gorgeous bridal bouquet in their own right - wouldn’t they! Perfect - this time - as a bright floral loo display for the 70 farmers & industry-professionals we had here on our farm this week talking about industrial h**p. EDUCATING YOU on what makes your PEONIES (flowers) FRESH! These photos are of my Late Night Last Harvest two nights ago! The last harvest is in and in perfect time as the HEAT (finally summer is here) is blasting the peonies open in the field as I type. TOMORROW we will be at Kelso Farmers’ Market to share these beauties. They’re HUGE blousy peonies to end the season with some of my most prized, late, premium varieties - Dresden Pink, Klehm’s Pink Unknown, Nancy Nora, Myrtle Gentry, Yvonne, Elk Grove and some sweet late Sarah Bernhardts. The harvested peony stems won’t be tight closed buds as they’re starting to plump and unfurl. It’s the end of a long season and now is the time to enjoy these special varieties. I don’t want to hear anyone moaning they want tight closed buds at me (they were literally harvested in firm, closed, bud form two nights ago and will be hydrating in the cool and dark until you get them Saturday) I suggest you go to the Dutch Flower Markets and buy the imported peonies from Norway or Finland if you want tight closed buds (because that’s where your florist will now be importing them from - that or the peonies were harvested weeks ago in mainland Europe and sat in a fridge for two+ weeks). Let’s not discuss the treatments and chemicals those peonies have gone through to STOP them opening so they look ‘fresh’ and in tight closed buds because that’s what you’ve been conditioned to think is fresh and will give you the longest vase life (it won’t give you the longest - bloom time in the vase - by the way). Some education on seasonal flowers needs to be learned. And I’m here to tell it to the few who aren’t yet with the programme. 🌸🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ Anyway, wait till you see (and smell) these peonies when they’re ACTUALLY OPEN OPEN. ⚽️🏀🏐☄️🌍🌎🌏

Can’t wait for Kelso Farmers Market this Saturday. We have some super special ‘late’ peonies ready at the perfect time. That will be us done for 2024 after that, folks, so come along and get your locally grown peony fix one last time (we will only be able to fulfil small orders after that until next Wednesday latest). The peonies are here for a good time, not a long time. 🌸

Oh You Pretty Things! Serene Pastel Peony with bonkers Green Halo. Peony bunches are back and available to buy at Scott’s of Kelso and available for Farm Pick-Up at Hadden, both venues at Market Prices (you lucky Scottish Borders locals) (just pre-order on the Farm Shop section on the website for the farm) from Now until The End of the Season.
Just a warning, things will be moving fast over the next couple of weeks as the heat’s woken the peony buds up. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for no more monsoon rains too because last week the peonies took a pounding, and after a brutal winter and spring of floods, the peonies are getting understandably tetchy about their constant baths and showers.

Pastel Peony Perfection! 🤎🌸🩵NEWS & UPDATES: Last week’s Very Early pastel varieties from our Premium and Rare Collection of Peonies - Blushing Princess; Pink Vanguard; Sunny Girl & Greenland - are full blown now so if you didn’t pick up a bunch from then you missed your chance on those varieties for the year. But do not fear! We have plenty more stunners, in so many different colours, to come as the season hots up. We have the slightest of pause for breath for a few days in the field - super convenient that as I have a book writing deadline for Wednesday - and then I’m ready to hit you with some bright blooms for the weekend. WE WILL HAVE A STALL AT KELSO FARMER’S MARKET THIS SATURDAY. And we’ll have our big blousy peony displays at Scott’s for you all to enjoy. COMING UP - We’ll be getting the postal peonies loaded onto the website from next week too (sorry for that delay - I’ve had a very unfortunate clash with publisher’s edits (I’m an author too) as the season was prepping and starting). But from Thursday - me and my peonies are all yours! We have large numbers of white peonies in many varieties for event & wedding flowers or if you just love something chic, and pale and interesting. We’ll be doing farm collection on bunches, local gift bouquet delivery (free delivery within 15 miles of Hadden, min spend £30 (& + delivery charge within a 25mile radius)) and we have Peony Field open mornings 16th & 23rd June.) I’m thinking of doing an additional mid week morning tour and floristry class too…? (drop me a message if you’d like additional field tour dates because you can’t make those two dates, or if you need peonies now before I get them uploaded on the website as I have been taking and processing email orders already.🤫). Flouer’s Peonies available at Scott’s of Kelso! (our favourite local restaurant, French-inspired bistro, deli, cafe and of course butcher extraordinaire) will be stocking our peony bunches this season. Pop in to collect your Sunday roast, a special choice wine selection, yummy deli snacks, superb coffee (seriously, I’m a quadruple espresso girl and no one else local is hitting the mark like Scott is on the coffee), citron presse, seasonal specials breakfast, lunch or dinner (you can even have beef tartare for breakfast if your heart desires - mine does!) (and my favourite lunch go-to is the amazing bouillabaisse with a glass of Blanc de Blanc Cremant followed by a seasonal special from the board) THEN take home some of our spectacular peony blooms (varieties changing daily) grown locally at Hadden Farm throughout the rest of May and June. Follow us on here or check out our website for updates and info on what’s on our In Season Board and for the flower field open mornings to visit the peony field in June.
