The fifth and final week of the Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support for August saw another 14 teams taking part, including first-timers "The Flunkers" and "Robbie's Bunch".

Having played their Joker straight away, "Agatha Quiztee" took an early lead, scoring the full 20 points on 'This Week In History' in round one.

In round two, we asked our teams to identify some well-known classical music composers, using only the vowels in their respective names - "The Bridies" and "The Clan" scored highest here, with 9 points apiece.

In Round 3, "The Flunkers" played their Joker card, and came out on top, with 12 points for the multiple choice General Knowledge Round.

For the Picture Round, the teams were this week challenged to name ten stars of the silver screen from the picture clues, and "The Flunkers" scored a perfect 10/10 this time, but were beaten by "DCM ### Stars", "Team Mac", "The Stoaters" and "Universally Challenged" who all managed a maximum 20 points thanks to their Jokers.

In Round 5, the theme this week was the 1981 film 'Chariots of Fire', and this saw some high-scoring too. "Ecclefechan Bare", "Team Mac", "The Stoaters" and "Universally Challenged" all scored 10/10, but it was "The Clan" who triumphed in this round, with a Joker-assisted 20 points.

In the 'Total Wipeout' round, the Snowball Jackpot was back to £10, and despite some reasonable scores, there were no winners this week.

In the 'Guess Who?' round, it wasn't until the fourth clue that "Tequila Mockingbird" and "Universally Challenged" correctly guessed former Sky Sports presenter Jim White as this week's mystery celeb, earning 15 points each. "Universally Challenged" were first drawn out of the hat, and so won the £20 cash prize this week.

It was also enough to ensure that "Universally Challenged" were the winners overall this week, giving them the £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card, with "Tequila Mockingbird" and "The Bridies" tied in second place.

"Tequila Mockingbird" had done enough to be crowned our 'Team of the Month' for August, winning £105 - not bad, eh?

Thanks to all of our teams who have taken part in the Quiz this month, and for all of your continued support of the Quiz, and most importantly Macmillan Cancer Support.

Join us for the Quiz this coming Thursday from 8pm, and make sure to book your table in advance by calling The Compass on 01383 821795.

Unbelievably, into the second-last Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support with another 14 teams taking part this week, including debutants "Harbour Lights".

This turned out to be one of the highest-scoring weeks on record, and in Round One, "Tequila Mockingbird", "The Bridies", "The Clan" and "Universally Challenged" ALL started with a perfect 10/10, but couldn't beat "Agatha Quiztee", who scored the maximum 20 points on 'This Week In History' to take an early lead.

We went with something new for the Word Puzzle Round this week, with being the topic (Google it if you've never heard of it lol) - however, it proved to be less of a challenge than expected with "Bonnie & Clyde", "Ecclefechan Brae", "Our Drinking Team Has A Quiz Problem", "Seal Pointers" and newbies "Harbour Lights" all scoring 10/10. Not only that, but "Balds & Blondes", "Craig & Mike", "Team Mac" and "The Stoaters" all managed a maximum 20 points thanks to their Jokers. "Tequila Mockingbird", "The Bridies", "The Clan" and "Universally Challenged" all scored 20 points thanks to their Jokers, meaning that after 2 rounds these 4 teams were deadlocked on a maximum 30 points each!

In the next round, "Tequila Mockingbird" and "Universally Challenged" maintained their perfect starts to sit on 40 points each, although it was "Ecclefechan Brae" and "Harbour Lights" who shared the spoils on the Multiple Choice General Knowledge Round thanks to their Jokers, with 16 points apiece.

The Picture Round this week was famous brands, and with only two teams left with Jokers, "Bonnie & Clyde" won this round having played theirs, scoring 18 points, 10 points ahead of the next best team in this round.

In Round 5, the theme was 'The Year 2000', which led to some very high scoring - "Tequila Mockingbird" and "The Bridies" both recording perfect scores for this round.

In the 'Total Wipeout' round this week, our teams were vying to win the £40 Snowball Jackpot for getting all ten answers right - and this week, "The Stoaters" did just that, scoring 10 points and pocketing four crisp ten pound notes!

In the final round, "Tequila Mockingbird" were the first (and only) team to correctly 'Guess Who?' the mystery celebrity was on the first clue (Susan Calman) and so they took the £20 cash jackpot AND 30 points.

It was enough to see them win the Quiz outright this week with this month's highest score so far of 90 points, and so they won the £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card as our weekly winners.

So one more week to go then, before we crown our 'Team of the Month' for August. We look forward to seeing you at The Compass this Thursday night from 8pm as we continue to have loads of fun raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support!

The third week of August's Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support saw a bumper crowd of 22 teams turn out, including 3 new teams - "Big Fact Hunt", "Apolo 1" and "Quizzard of Oz".

None of our teams opted to play their Jokers in the first round, and so it was "Agatha Quiztee", "The Clan" and "The Stoaters" who shared the early lead with 9 points each on the questions about 'This Week In History'.

Twelve of our teams opted to play their Jokers in round 2 for the wordsearch this week - the subject matter was 'All-Male Groups' - and despite "The Muppets" getting all ten right, "Ecclefechan Brae" and "Universally Challenged" both scored a maximum 20 points with their Jokers.

In Round 3, "Bonnie & Clyde" scored a perfect 10/10, but were just pipped by "Dynamic Duo" who carded 12 points thanks to their Joker card on the 'Multiple Choice General Knowledge' questions.

For Round 4, our teams were tasked with naming 10 bespectacled celebs from the pictures in front of them. "The Bridies" got all ten correct, but "Double Trouble" and "Tequila Mockingbird" both scored the maximum 20 points thanks to their Jokers.

Our Themed Round this week was all about Elvis Presley - the scoring in this round was fairly modest, with all of the Joker cards having been played in previous rounds. But "Agatha Quiztee" took full advantage, scoring 10/10.

In the 'Total Wipeout' round, the Snowball Jackpot had increased to £30, but fourteen of our teams crashed and burned - "The Clan" coming closest with 8 points. But ultimately, no winners so the Snowball Jackpot goes to £40 for next week.

So, it was down to the final round, to see which team could 'Guess Who?' the mystery celeb was ahead of everyone else. "Agatha Quiztee" managed to correctly guess Claire Balding as the correct answer unopposed on the second clue, to bag 25 points, and the £20 cash prize for the round.

And it proved to be enough to see them run out as worthy winners of the Quiz overall this week, with 79 points, ahead of "The Clan" (72 points) and "Tequila Mockingbird" (67 points).

Well done to "Agatha Quiztee" then, who received a £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card as our weekly winners.

Thank you to all of the teams who supported the Quiz this week, helping to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

You can book your table for this week's Quiz by calling The Compass on 01383 821795 - we look forward to seeing you there!

We had a quieter than normal week this week, with a few of our regular teams absent, and some of those that were there posting depleted numbers.

Nonetheless, the Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support still enjoyed a healthy 13 teams taking part.

In Round 1, "Agatha Quiztee" and "Ecclefechan Brae" both opted to play their Jokers, and "Agatha Quiztee" took full advantage, scoring a maximum 20 points for 'This Week In History'.

The Word Puzzle in Round 2 this week was 'Dingbats' which saw SEVEN teams play their Joker cards. And although "DCM ### Stars", "Oakleyonians" and "Tequila Mockingbird" all scored perfect tens, "The Bridies", "The Clan", "The Giggle Gang", "The Stoaters" and "Universally Challenged" all played their Jokers to maximum effect, scoring 20 points each!

Into Round 3, and our 'General Knowledge - Multiple Choice' round saw some good scoring - but is was "Oakleyonians" who came out on top, with a Joker-boosted 14 points.

The Picture Round this week was 'TV Puppets & Sidekicks', and although "Our Drinking Team Has A Quiz Problem", "Team Mac", "The Bridies" and "Universally Challenged" all scored full marks, "Tequila Mockingbird" played the Joker card to score 18 points to win Round 4.

The Themed Round this week was the Paris Olympics, and appropriately, there was a perfect 10 for "The Bridies" to win this round.

There were no winners in the 'Total Wipeout' round, and so the Snowball Jackpot next week will be £20.

In the final round, "Tequila Mockingbird" were the first to 'Guess Who' the mystery celebrity was, and so won the £20 cash prize for the round.

And so that led us to a tie-break to see who would win the Quiz overall, with "The Bridies" and "The Clan" both deadlocked. They BOTH got the tie-break answer correct, and so it was down to a lucky dip to see who would take home the £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card, and it was "The Clan" who were pulled out first. Congratulations to them, and commiserations on this occasion to "The Bridies".

So we are back next Thursday for Week #3 - call the team at The Compass on 01383 821795 to book your table. We look forward to seeing you there, and thank you for your continued support of the Quiz, and most importantly Macmillan Cancer Support.

We began another month of the Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support with a healthy turnout of 18 teams, including newcomers "The Smithys" and "Big Night Out".

Round 1 saw "Your Mum" start strong with 10/10, but it was "Agatha Quiztee" who, having played their Joker straight off the bat, scored the maximum 20 points on 'This Week In History' - something that is quickly becoming one of their strongest rounds.

Round 2 was anagrams, with the names of Scottish castles being the topic - "The Clan" and "Your Mum" outscored the other teams, with 10 correct each.

We saw some reasonably high-scoring for round 3, but it was "The Clan" who top-scored on the General Knowledge round with 16 points, thanks to their Joker.

Our Picture Round had a bit of a twist this week - our teams were presented with pictures of 10 famous ladies...but asked to name their famous HUSBANDS as the answers. Although "Agatha Quiztee" and "Captain Morgans" both got all ten right, they were trumped by "Our Drinking Team Has A Quiz Problem" who played their Joker to perfection to score the maximum 20 points.

In Round 5, the theme was 'The City of Dunfermline', with "The Smithys" top scorers on a Joker-assisted 8 points.

In the 'Total Wipeout' round, "The Clan" repeated their feat of 3 weeks ago by getting all 10 answers correcting, and so winning the £30 Snowball Jackpot - this is now the FOURTH time they have managed to get full marks in this round, so well done to them!

In our final 'Guess Who?' round, "Agatha Quiztee", "Ecclefechan Brae" and "Tequila Mockingbird" all correctly guessed Christopher Dean as the mystery celebrity on the first clue - but it was "Agatha Quiztee" who were pulled out of the hat first to win the £20 cash prize.

It wasn't enough to catch our first winners of August - "Tequila Mockingbird" - who finished a comfortable 8 points ahead of "Agatha Quiztee" to win the £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card.

The final week of the Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support for July saw another healthy turnout, with 19 teams taking part, including first-timers "Dynamic Duo", "The Drongos" and "Team Macaroni Cheese".

We kicked things off with another ten questions about 'This Week In History', Clearly our teams are doing their homework, as "Craig & Mike", "Team Mac", "The Bridies", "Universally Challenged" and "Your Mum" ALL scored 10/10. However "Agatha Quiztee" took the early lead, with a maximum 20 points, thanks to their Joker.

Round 2 saw LOADS of Jokers played, as our teams tried to find ten Scottish Olympians in our Wordsearch. "Agatha Quiztee" continued their perfect start with 10/10, as did "Our Drinking Team Has A Quiz Problem", "The Bridies" and "The Clan", but the Joker players took full advantage with some really high scoring, including 20 points apiece for "Craig & Mike", "The Stoaters", "Universally Challenged" and "Your Mum".

In Round 3, there was more high-scoring for the Multiple Choice questions - "Ecclefechan Brae" scored a perfect 10/10, but it was newcomers "Dynamic Duo" who won this round with a Joker-boosted 12 points.

The Picture Round saw our teams tasked with naming characters from the Mr. Men Little Miss series of books, this posed quite some difficulties for our teams - "Tequila Mockingbird" top-scoring on 16 points.

For the Themed Round this week, our topic was anniversary gifts and gemstones. "Team Mac", "The Bridies" and "The Clan" had all held on to their Jokers for this round, and to good effect, scoring 18 points each.

We managed to record some scores in 'Total Wipeout' this week, but with a high-score of 6 points from "The Clan", there were no winners this week, so our Snowball Jackpot goes up to £30 for the start of the August quizzes.

For our Final Round, three teams managed to 'Guess Who?' the mystery celebrity was on the second clue, "Agatha Quiztee", "The Stoaters" and "Tequila Mockingbird" gaining 25 points each. "The Stoaters" were pulled out of the lucky dip first to win the £20.

It wasn't enough to topple "Agatha Quiztee" who held on to win for the 3rd consecutive week, meaning that they won the £25 Greene King Brewery to add to their collection.

They were also crowned our 'Team of the Month' for July with a maximum 70 points, winning £90 for their efforts.

Thanks to everyone who has joined us at The Compass for the quizzes during July. We go again this Thursday, so book your team in by calling 01383 821795 to avoid disappointment.

There are FIVE Thursday in August, so even more chance to win more prizes and raise even more money for Macmillan Cancer Support!

The penultimate week of July's Thursday Pub Quiz at The Compass for Macmillan Cancer Support saw 16 teams taking part, including 4 new teams - "Arkadaslar", "Rudi", "Absolutely Fabulous" and "Doughballs".

Despite "Agatha Quiztee" starting with a perfect 10/10, it was "Ecclefechan Brae" who took the lead after round 1, scoring 12 points courtesy of their Joker, on 'This Week In History'.

In our Word Puzzle Round, we had Dingbats this week, which saw some really high scores! EIGHT of our teams scored 10/10, but "Craig & Mike", "Tequila Mockingbird", "The Scrabblers", "The Stoaters" and "Doughballs" all carded the maximum 20 points thanks to their Jokers!

The third round proved to be much more challenging, with "Absolutely Fabulous" our top scorers on a Joker-assisted 16 points for the General Knowledge Multiple Choice questions.

For our Picture Round, we celebrated and challenged our teams to work out the names of ten well-known brands or products from the emoji clues. FIVE of our teams scored 10/10, but "Our Drinking Team Has A Quiz Problem" were top-scorers for the round with 18 points, thanks to their Joker.

Our Themed Round this week was 'Scottish Football Team Nicknames' - and again, this produced some really high scores. Although "JDS" and "The Scrabblers" both carded 10/10, "Agatha Quiztee", "Balds & Blondes", "The Clan", "Universally Challenged", "Your Mum" and "Arkadaslar" all managed a maximum 20 points each, thanks to their Jokers.

In the 'Total Wipeout' round, our teams were playing for a £10 cash jackpot this week, but "Craig & Mike" were our top scorers on 7 points, so the Snowball Jackpot is £20 for next week.

In the final round, "Agatha Quiztee" were the first team to correctly guess Chris Tarrant as the mystery celebrity, and so they claimed 30 points, AND the £20 cash prize for the round.

It also saw them claim a fairly emphatic win overall for the Quiz this week with a final score of 90 points, meaning that the £25 Greene King Brewery Gift Card was theirs again this week.

Thanks to everyone who joined us this week, and for the continued support of the Quiz, and most importantly Macmillan Cancer Support.

We head into the final week next week, where we will also announce our 'Team of the Month' for July.

So book early to make sure your team has a table, by calling The Compass on 01383 821795, and we look forward to seeing you there from 8pm (or earlier if you want to make a night of it!)
