You might have noticed we’re out on the town quite a bit recently!! But, we will be staying put for a few hours very soon and hopefully you’ll be with us to celebrate the end of set up season and the beginning of workshop season. Are you coming? If you’ve not been before you’re in for a treat. The ingredients you’ll create with are truly luxurious & abundant in equal measures. You’ll leave with more than you could possibly imagine! No sprigs of prickly holly & god knows where from old oranges here! Instead bucketfuls of sustainably grown firs, heather, pines & more winter wonders, seasonal foliage never felt & smelt so good. Plus, no wire or metal, only Cumbrian willow bases, sustainably harvested Welsh moss from Nathan & jute string. So, fully compostable too but trust us, our wreaths have been known to last years and if you join us again next year we’ll give you a £10 discount if you reuse your willow base! For those who have been before we’ve got new varieties to play with and velvet silk hand dyed ribbons this year too! Take down// the days of prep and set up are equalled by the days of take down and cleaning. We often get asked what happens to the flowers afterwards…..well…… Brides often want to preserve their bouquets so it’s either back to us to dry or reconditioned ready to be packaged and sent off to one of the many people we know who transform bouquets into ceramics, fabrics, paintings or prints. Then we always encourage families and friends to take home the vast majority of blooms after the party. For our large scale weddings where we return to take down installations and guests are staying on site for the weekend, we offer a post wedding bouquet making service. Guests can pick up a beautiful mixed bouquet made up from the designs of the previous day. It’s then a case of us packing the van up to head back and begin the big shake down. Where we can, we dry any stems still in good shape, either for the couple or for us to use in winter work. All the petals are removed from stems and dried to be made into confetti. The remaining stems head into our compost bins. That leaves the non floral side. We reuse all our mechanics which are made from wood and metal, once stripped of their foliage they get a good clean and are often repaired and strengthened. Then it’s vessels and buckets galore, these get a good scrub, rinse & polish, followed by candleware clean downs, followed by boxes & packaging to be sorted & stored, a big old van clean, inside and out, one final floor sweep and then a little crawl to a quiet sunny corner to try and straighten out the old backs 😂 but not for long!!! A week long prep finally cumulates in the big days final set up where all the delicate flowers come to play. Haven’t had time to edit pictures like normal but when you’ve got @tireedawson capturing Caroline and Peter’s actual day last weekend @askham_hall you know there’s some great memories coming which we’ll share on @floralistaweddings at some point!
