Delighted as always to play in Palais de Phonix at Solfest. 🙏🏻

Here it is..... this year's full line-up in the Palais de Phonix at Solfest : the only stage which is open around the clock for twenty four hours of music, twenty fours hours of coffee and snacks from the excellent Fell and Bean cafe, twenty four hour sofas to rest on and a carpeted dance floor🎶☕️ 🍰🛋🪑💃🕺

This year we are especially thrilled to include in our eclectic and diverse lineup some of the best electronic music producers in the country including -
Globular, Bad Tango, Alterra Project, Wolf Tech, Xylem, Tea Tree, Perpetual Loop, and a special three hour LIVE set from Hedflux - we had so many requests to get Hedflux back, and we have managed to do that for his only UK show this year 💙

We also bring you some of the best Northern djs across various genres including Tim Toil of Beatherder; Cumbria's own favourite The Farmer of Farmyard Noises; Clumsy (Madhatters); Charlie Power; ElectrickBlue, Magiclantern and many many more 🙏

For our live music we are delighted to bring you Yoko Pwno bringing their wonderfully danceable folktronica 🎻 from Edinburgh; SPACEHOPPER who headlined in the Palais in 2022 with their live mix of uplifting trance, acid techno and up-beat dub; Arkanna, a Scottish singer-songwriter and music producer who soothes the soul with her soundscapes, at Solfest for the first time; and by popular demand we're bringing back Krin with their synthesis of West African drum rhythms, Afro-Cuban influences and cutting edge Techno. As always we'll bring you some of the best Cumbrian bands across all genres, alongside some surprises such as Jacques Malchance PianoWorks, for an hour of classical piano on Sunday afternoon.

I am really excited to share this one. Breakbeat went deep for me in '98, when I danced to it for six solid hours in Brixton. The club was called Mass and it was under St. Matthew's Church. The experience was spiritual. Funkt was the night, Lol Hammond was the headliner and he was damn good. Anyone know him? Please give 'im a nod from me. His set was epic. 🔥

More than a quarter century later, this is my take on the best of new breakbeat coming out of Beatport today. I thought I was popping into the store for a handful of newbies to keep my breaks mix nice n fresh. Turns out I found 27 new bangers I love in the top 100. That is unheard of. My average sample to purchase hit rate on Beatport is normally 2%. 🤓

Bangarang feat. Navigator, with Deekline and Specimen A on production. A bangin choon in the latest Beetle Bass show on Mixcloud.

Navigator first landed in my ears with a much-loved track called Culture Move, back in '98. It's on Asian Dub Foundation's second album, Rafi's Revenge. Nominated for the Mercury Music Prize that year, it was up there with Massive Attack, Propellerheads, Pulp, The Verve and more. What a year for music!

Like Asian Dub Foundation, Massive Attack and Jarvis Cocker, Navigator has stood the test of time and stayed true to his calling, in more ways than many of us might realise. The man has been through deep life experience. He's come through difficult times and he's still up there, absolutely smashing it with the best, connected to the roots of his craft and keeping it real.

1991 remix of Supermode's 'Tell Me Why'. The track is in Beetle Bass 007 but that voice! ❤️

That voice is Jimmy Somerville, just in case you didn't know. I wish original artists would get more credit in remixes like this. The original song was called Smalltown Boy and it's one of my most cherished musical memories from the 80s. It meant much to me then and it means even more now. Jimmy Somerville, you are a legend. 🙏🏻
