It’s such a privilege to be surrounded by so many talented people on the estate here at Halecat but also in our surrounding villages and towns. With that in mind we’re all completely thrilled to have Carmen back with us at the nursery.
Carmen is taking orders now for Christmas and running her popular workshops over the coming months. Carmen has always embraced the seasonality of the plants she works with working with locally foraged material wherever possible. I can’t recommend her highly enough.

The leaves have now fallen from the Hazels and that’s my cue to get in and coppice a selection of stems to use for our larger Christmas wigwam’s and frames to illuminate at both of our sites. In 4 to 6 years I can repeat the process from the same plants.
I find this one of the most gratifying jobs knowing that you have the chance to unleash your creative side (also applies to the Hazel cut for the garden in the spring to create supports for the perennials and vegetables) but equally and more importantly the fact that this is a genuinely sustainable material that can be harvested like any crop. Images of the end result will follow in due course 😊

Absolutely thrilled and very flattered to have some of prints and cards available in our small garden shop in Grange. I love the vibrancy and textures of Sue’s work and her interpretation of plant form, structure and colour, it’s a joy to look at and as a linocut beginner is hugely inspiring! Do check out her account it’s ace.

The efforts of all the team on the nursery last Autumn have come through in gorgeous fashion these last few weeks as the bulbs come into their own from the planted narrow borders to the repurposed metal containers, Thankyou to everyone for all of your wonderful feedback.

Was so moved by this extraordinary sculpture by only a stone’s throw from Heysham and close to St Patrick’s chapel where the coastal and historical legacies of the past and present left me in deep reflective mode, a special afternoon.

Merry Christmas everyone, thanks so much for all your support this year it means so much to us all at the nursery. On a personal note thanks to everyone who has enjoyed my musings on plants this season here on Instagram and elsewhere but also more importantly for keeping me on my toes by asking lots of questions?! Really looking forward to what the season of 2024 has in store but in the meantime let’s take some time to rest a relax! Cheers 🎄🌿🍁🍂
