An update on how the plants got on in minus 8 degree cold weather 🥶❄️
Mostly the ones I thought should survive, survived! And the ones I wasn’t sure would, did not!
All in all the plants and I are doing Ok. BUT if you have been watching my stories this week you would have seen I had a visitor in the miniature tunnel 🐀
We’ll have to see whether some of plants recover and whether the critter visits again!
A little look at what is growing in the miniature tunnel 🌱
Larkspur is a great early Summer crop IF you can over Winter then successfully. I find they with stand the cold really well and produce lots of long lovely stems come end of June/July.
Pretty pinks, white and lilacs will be available this year 🌸🤍🦄
I’ve blinked and the outdoor fresh flower growing season has gone 😯
A little look back of the flowers for the season from early Spring Daffs and Tulips to late flowering Dahlias.
Growing in harmony with the seasons is always a joy 🌱
Prepping for 2025 has already begun with seeds sown, bulbs planted and beds prepped. Just the small matter to get everything through the Winter ❄️

A florists dream brief to work with (for some obvs 😅)
Picking in the heavy rain was fun 🙃 but got still got this beaut palette together for a florist whose wedding had a very loose brief.
These kind of briefs make it a dream for seasonal growers and florists to really get creative and make something truly special 😍
I can’t wait for the final design using all local flowers 🙌🏽

A Spring mixed flower and foliage bucket for florists 🌷
Spring isn’t where I put my investment into the flower growing space this year. As I started my flower farm in June of last year, I’m learning and trialing what Spring flowers are going to work for me and my site. Plus I did have 120 Icelandic poppies and they were all eaten by slugs 🤬🙃 So I’m taking notes, adding varieties to the list, watching and learning ready for sowing seeds and bulbs later in the year for Spring 2025.
A trip to see Jools @lilacandbarrowflowers for the extra stems to make up this bucket for a florist order. Thank you ☺️ Super handy having another grower just in the next village.

Aquilegia ‘Kristall’ a white supporting flower grown from seed. This is in its second year and is now reaching its full height.
A plant that hits my bomb proof list 😅
✅ Grows well on clay
✅ Survives out in an open field
✅ Will tolerate very cold weather
✅ Not needy (so I can concentrate on other very needy plants)
I haven’t found it self seeds freely but then I don’t find a lot that self seeds freely on clay!
So what do we think of Aquilegia ‘Kristall’?
I love Sweet Rocket that blooms late Spring and here is why:
•The smell 💜 It’s a sweet smelling filler flower that isn’t too overpowering. A pleasant suprise in a bouquet.
The life 💜 An amazing 7 day or more vase life (if you look after your flowers). Even when the flowers are slowly wilting and drying they still look pretty.
Bomb proof 💜 For a grower anything that fits the bomb proof category earns its spot on my flower farm. It grows well in clay and can survive freezing temperatures, as tested 2 Winter’s ago.
I look forward to adding it to your bouquets this year 💐

I do love cosmos 💕 those floaty bobbing heads really do add a little sparkle to bouquets.
With an approx vase life of 5 days and that’s with proper conditioning, they are short lived.
My personal favourites are ‘Double Click’ for better vase life and ‘Purity’ for productivity!
I’ve saved seeds from last year to begin sowing these tender half hardy plants in March. They’ll be blooming their socks off by August.
Do you love cosmos?

Narcissus and Daffodils 💛🤍 will be the ones to flower first at Paintbox Blooms, East Chase Farm.
I really fell for these sweetly scented yellow and white delights.
Coming in such a range of sizes, trumpets and ruffles it was hard to choose from all the varieties.
The plan is to grow ones that like to grow in grass and will naturalise. I’ve begun planting a long strip up against the fence of the far side of the plot. Slowly adding to it year upon year I think it will be such a lovely show come early Spring.
Who loves these early Spring beauts?
