A florists dream brief to work with (for some obvs 😅)
Picking in the heavy rain was fun 🙃 but got still got this beaut palette together for a florist whose wedding had a very loose brief.
These kind of briefs make it a dream for seasonal growers and florists to really get creative and make something truly special 😍
I can’t wait for the final design using all local flowers 🙌🏽

A Spring mixed flower and foliage bucket for florists 🌷
Spring isn’t where I put my investment into the flower growing space this year. As I started my flower farm in June of last year, I’m learning and trialing what Spring flowers are going to work for me and my site. Plus I did have 120 Icelandic poppies and they were all eaten by slugs 🤬🙃 So I’m taking notes, adding varieties to the list, watching and learning ready for sowing seeds and bulbs later in the year for Spring 2025.
A trip to see Jools @lilacandbarrowflowers for the extra stems to make up this bucket for a florist order. Thank you ☺️ Super handy having another grower just in the next village.

Aquilegia ‘Kristall’ a white supporting flower grown from seed. This is in its second year and is now reaching its full height.
A plant that hits my bomb proof list 😅
✅ Grows well on clay
✅ Survives out in an open field
✅ Will tolerate very cold weather
✅ Not needy (so I can concentrate on other very needy plants)
I haven’t found it self seeds freely but then I don’t find a lot that self seeds freely on clay!
So what do we think of Aquilegia ‘Kristall’?
I do love cosmos 💕 those floaty bobbing heads really do add a little sparkle to bouquets.
With an approx vase life of 5 days and that’s with proper conditioning, they are short lived.
My personal favourites are ‘Double Click’ for better vase life and ‘Purity’ for productivity!
I’ve saved seeds from last year to begin sowing these tender half hardy plants in March. They’ll be blooming their socks off by August.
Do you love cosmos?

Narcissus and Daffodils 💛🤍 will be the ones to flower first at Paintbox Blooms, East Chase Farm.
I really fell for these sweetly scented yellow and white delights.
Coming in such a range of sizes, trumpets and ruffles it was hard to choose from all the varieties.
The plan is to grow ones that like to grow in grass and will naturalise. I’ve begun planting a long strip up against the fence of the far side of the plot. Slowly adding to it year upon year I think it will be such a lovely show come early Spring.
Who loves these early Spring beauts?

When a group of flower growers and florists come together to create magic with British grown flowers this is what it turns out like 🌷🌻🌸
British grown flowers are ever changing with the seasons. They are scented, delicate, frothy, airy, arching and above all uniquely beautiful.

Florals but make it about the vase 🌷
I’m all about the simple creative things that give me joy. I love being creative but I’ve got a toddler and a 6 year old 🙃 That makes being creative a little hard and I definitely can’t spend hours either.
But that doesn’t stop me from being creative and one way can be designing a small cluster of bud vases.
I love these as they have the colourful glass that sparkles when the light catches so I kept the flowers really simple ✨
Have you got time for a 10 minute faff with flowers?

Phew 😮💨 What a day of shovelling horse poo 😅 I’m sure I can still smell it!
I prepped my FILs polytunnel today ready to plant out the ranunculus I sprouted back in Autumn.
Using mostly resources from the farm helps keep the cost down 👇🏾📉 I am very fortunate to have piles of horse poop waiting for me to shovel 😅
This was a day of hard graft and my back is definitely a little sore despite making sure to bed those knees when lifting!
Once this cold snap is over I’ll plant out the ranunculus that is currently in pots in the field.
They will be blooming by April 🌷
Who else is looking forward to Spring flowers 🙌🏽

Sowing seeds for beautiful cut flowers 💐
I’ll be sowing my first cut flower seeds the middle of next month. This is due to the increase of light levels 🙌🏽 Hooray for more light ☀️
But what to sow first?
It’s still going to be chilly out there still so we need cold tolerant plants to sow first.
✨Statice and strawflowers are quick to germinate and can give you oodles of flowers. So best to make the most of the production that these lovely flowers by getting them going early.
✨Rudbeckia and Snapdragons are slow growing and need to be started off early.
✨Malope is a beautiful mallow flower that comes in bright pink, pale pink and white.
I will start all these off in my kitchen 😬 As I don’t have access to electricity for heat mats etc. I’ve only got a tiny kitchen and I plan to sow hundreds of seeds 🌱
Have you bought your seeds yet?

Using branding colours in stories and reels is actually quite simple. You just need to prep for it first.
Take a look at the video to know how.
I hope this helps some of my small business community ✌🏾
Merry Christmas to all those who celebrate and cheers to a restful well needed break.
Thank you to all those who have supported me and my business this year, it means a huge amount!
Lots of festive cheer, Naomi 🥂
2023 Look Back 🥳
As much as I sometimes can’t be arsed to do social media, (but it’s been so important for my business) it has forced me to take lots of photos and videos.
Getting to see how far you’ve come and what you have done in a year, really helps you to put things in perspective.
I am ever grateful for this life I get to call home 🙏🏾
Flowers will be blooming again in April 🌷 With the first crop being tulips. I can’t wait to be able to provide you with flowers again 🌸

Gardening for your mental health 🌷
Believe it or not I had no interest in gardening or growing. It wasn’t until I fell pregnant with my first child that I started. The outside helped the nausea. I was only working a few hours a week tutoring after walking out of my job after a mental breakdown. Being someone who needed their mind occupying, I spent more and more time outside.
After a difficult pregnancy and traumatic birth, I stayed at home to raise my son. I didn’t find being a stay at home Mum particularly easy and I was dealing a lot with my mental health still.
But being outside and gardening was an escpasim for me but also my son who needed constantly occupying.
Over the years I’ve learnt a lot and then discovered flower farming as a career.
I felt like it was the perfect opportunity. My in-laws had space and there was no one in my town flower farming.
So I practiced at home for 2 years before embarking on the big move.
1 year down the line, it hasn’t exactly been easy! BUT I have a lot less anxious and despressive episodes and I’m looking forward to my 2nd year flower farming.

Claret ✨ Inspired by seasonal finds
After sourcing my British grown foliage, I was inspired by the beautiful wine colours so decided to add another colour scheme.
Filled with wine coloured flowers, seed heads and berries this is a slight take on the traditional wreath.
Available my shop or to secure exactly what you want them please drop me a DM.

Christmas Planters using no floral foam!
I’ve seen two ways making Christmas outdoor arrangements.
Method one: filling a container with compost and adding the foliage
or
Method two: using floral foam
I’ve used the second method but with chicken wire instead. I’ve done both ways now and find this method 👆🏾 much quicker and easier to do.
Again I used some Conifer and Norway Spruce from farm for the main greenery in these arrangements.
Bring on the festivities 🙌🏽

Dahlia Fail 😩 I don’t know whether it was the constant rain, or the fact we had no rain in the early Summer followed by hardly any sun and lots of rain mid to late Summer orrrrr I didn’t feed them enough or whether it was just the wrong variety.
I’m not sure what went ‘wrong’ but hopefully I will get a bet understanding over the years.
This year my strategy is to grow dahlias recommended by other growers and not just picking on colour and style.
I’ve saved the ones that have stuck with me 💪🏽 and have been good bloomers despite everything else!

Seasonal flowers 🌸 The joy with British seasonal flowers is that they are always changing.
Now we have gorgeous pinks, soft peaches, burnt oranges and rusty reds.
This jar is filled with dahlias, Rudbeckias, cosmos, scabious and elder foliage.
This is the last week to order from me as I will be closing at the end of the week to get ready for the next season ahead 🎄
