Around 1996 I got to work with Booker Newberry III the man that had a huge hit in 1983 with Love Town. He was also the lead singer of Sweet Thunder back in the late 70s on their cult club smash "Everybody's Singing Love Songs". As Wag Ya Tail productions we wrote and produced a few songs with Booker including a couple of cover version ideas but here is the unfinished demo version of a beautiful song he wrote with Mike Stevens. My input was simply to say let's make a track that Barry White would be proud to sing and as you can hear even from this demo, Booker's voice blows most of today's vocalists away.He is currently still a prison guard at a youth correctional facility in Youngstown Ohio as he was when we recorded this track but that week we spent with him in Newport Pagnell at Mike's studio was magical. He even played in goal for us at our weekly 5 a side gathering in Milton Keynes. He didn't let in many goals being the size he is! This track is a throwback to when Soul music had Soul within it. Now thanks to X Factor and The Voice all R&B tracks sound like Westlife songs and have lost their Soul. Play it all the way as at the end the backing vocal parts come in to really show what this song is all about. Please remember this is an unfinished demo that I found in my Man Cave
What an amazing time at yesterday’s 2nd Birthday Party for The Mingle at Sun Pier House in Chatham. An absolute pleasure to witness the return of our special guest DJ Nicky Peck making a return to a set of decks for the first time in over 35 years and it was like he’d never been away! A special set that will live long in the memory of all that were there to witness it. Huge thanks to everyone who came out to party. The next Mingle event page will go up soon. The Real Thing - RIP Eddy Amoo
Very sad to hear of the passing of Eddy Amoo of The Real Thing today. During my DJ career I've had the pleasure of working with the band on numerous occasions with the most recent one being New Year's Eve 2014 at the Britannia Theatre within the former Dickens World. Whilst the world really saw Eddy's brother Chris as the lead singer of the band, Eddy was very much the driving force behind the group and even on this clip of the last time I worked with them, you can see Eddy's boundless energy as he ran and danced around the stage at the age of 70 as he was then! RIP Eddy and thank you for some priceless memories Sir.
