This was posted by another florist but these are my sentiments and I thought I’d share it with you… it’s a bit long but very useful info.

Hi,I just wanted to give you all a bit of information about florist pricing during peak seasons such as Valentines Day & Mother's Day.

Flowers are bought at auction, and we all know that auction prices fluctuate because of supply and demand. So the price increase starts right at the beginning of the chain and ends with the florist. Us florists unfortunately have no option but to increase prices around these times. I would imagine that most florists, like myself, don't increase their prices as much as the price increase they have incurred, so we do absorb some of the price increase too.
Another thing to make you aware of is the difference in flowers bought from a supermarket. I'm not saying you shouldn't buy from a supermarket by any means, BUT you're not buying the same product that a florist sells. Take a look at the difference in the photo, it speaks for itself.
Buying from a florist, you are also paying for a floral design beautifully presented. You do not get that from a bunch from the supermarket. Therefore you can't fairly compare those prices. Another thing to reflect supermarket prices is that they buy in mass quantities which lowers their cost.
I'm happy to provide anyone with a beautiful bouquet designed by myself, but I'm also happy if you buy a bunch from a supermarket, I like the fact that there is a budget that can suit everyone. Flowers make everyone smile 😍 (well, nearly everyone 🤣)
One thing I would advise anyone against doing is buying from relay companies such as moonpig, eflorist, funky pidgeon etc...they are not made by florists. They are flowers put in a box and never look like they advertise. Just look at all the complaints on their fb pages.
And one last little ni**le I have around these peak seasons is, why do some businesses discourage buying flowers to promote their own product sales. That I think is an underhand sales tactic.

Anyway to end this on a happy note I hope every florist that reads this has a great Valentine's and all my customers and followers feel the love ❤️
