Today, as Sir David Attenborough celebrates his 100th birthday, I just wanted to take a moment..,
For so many of us, Sir David hasn’t simply narrated programmes about nature — he has changed the way we see the world. Through his passion, wisdom and storytelling, he has taught generations about the beauty of plants, flowers, insects, animals and the delicate balance that connects every living thing on this planet.
As a florist and lover of nature, I know so much of my appreciation for flowers and the natural world has been shaped by watching and listening to him over the years. He taught us that flowers are not “just flowers”, and creatures are not “just insects” — every part of nature has purpose, value and extraordinary beauty.
He has been a prophet of our time: educating us, opening our eyes to the damage being done to our planet, and inspiring millions of people to live more thoughtfully, more compassionately and with greater respect for the Earth we all share. He has helped redefine what is right and wrong when it comes to the natural world and our responsibility to protect it for future generations.
And on a slightly less profound note… Sir David has also personally rescued many of my weekends. There is genuinely no better cure for a hangover than curling up on the sofa with one of his documentaries. His instantly recognisable, soothing voice is like a warm blanket for the soul — calming, comforting and somehow capable of lowering stress levels within seconds!
Thank you, Sir David, for a lifetime of wonder, knowledge, honesty and hope.
The world is better because of you. 🌿🦋🌍💚
