St Nicholas Chapel KL Historic Chapel operating as a mixed-use venue, available to hire for public & private events

The largest Chapel of Ease in the country, St Nicholas’ Chapel was originally founded by William Turbus, the third Bishop of Norwich in around 1140. The building we see today is mostly the result of substantial re-building between the late 14th and early 15th centuries, with the exception of the tower, which originally dates from around 1225 and was comprehensively reordered in 1852. The Chapel is

in the care of The Churches Conservation Trust, the national charity saving historic churches at risk, with support from the Freinds of St Nicholas' Chapel. In September 2015 it was reopened following a £2.7m regeneration project, in partnership with the Friends of St Nicholas' Chapel and the Heritage Lottery Fund. Since reopening, the chapel has begun a new life as a venue for a range of cultural events including concerts, fairs and exhibitions, as well as public, private and corporate functons.

Hats off to Retro Party Experience for so successfully rescheduling their events after we had to cancel at such short notice in May, fair to say they don’t let a teeny tiny bit of scaffolding stop them bringing the party to the chapel!

A great night was had by all for their 90’s & 00’s night last night & if you want to go back an extra decade it’s all about the 80’s tonight, with limited tickets available on the door 😇

We reopened mid July for events & we’ve had some brilliant entertainment these last few months here at the Chapel.

We were delighted to have our first concert from King's Lynn Festival Thursday night with the incredible Sam Lee Band

You may have heard a crack was identified in one of our roof timbers and the Chapel was closed as a result.

A full inspection is taking place today and the information from that will be used to plan both remedial works and potential interim measures to allow the Chapel to re-open.

All thanks to Retro Party Experience, Lumos Experiences, King's Lynn Community Choir, King's Lynn Festival Chorus & Norfolk Symphony Orchestra, our May and June hirers, for their understanding and to King's Lynn Minster for accommodating some of those events.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back as soon as we can.

We’re so disappointed to share this news with you, but it has been necessary for the CCT to postpone the amazing Retro Party Experience’s hire of the Chapel this weekend. We’ve been looking at other dates with them and are pleased to say both nights have been rescheduled for September.

We’re really sorry for the inconvenience this has caused both to the organisers and ticket holders, we love having you all here, but must put public safety first.

A crack has been identified to one of our roof timbers so sadly we must remain closed as a precaution until further investigations are made.

Our Story

St Nicholas’ Chapel is in the care of The Churches Conservation Trust, the national charity protecting historic churches at risk, with support from the Friends of St Nicholas' Chapel.

The Chapel is currently closed for visiting but should reopen in early Spring. We are in urgent need of more volunteers to help hosting visitors and showcasing a historic part of Kings Lynn history. Leave a message here and we will contact you.

The building also operates as a cultural venue for a wide variety of events including concerts and exhibitions, and is available to hire for private and corporate functions.

Tours can be booked for individuals and groups, we also offer school visits and other educational and family activities.
