St Nicholas Chapel KL

St Nicholas Chapel KL Historic Chapel operating as a mixed-use venue, available to hire for public & private events

The largest Chapel of Ease in the country, St Nicholas’ Chapel was originally founded by William Turbus, the third Bishop of Norwich in around 1140. The building we see today is mostly the result of substantial re-building between the late 14th and early 15th centuries, with the exception of the tower, which originally dates from around 1225 and was comprehensively reordered in 1852. The Chapel is

in the care of The Churches Conservation Trust, the national charity saving historic churches at risk, with support from the Freinds of St Nicholas' Chapel. In September 2015 it was reopened following a £2.7m regeneration project, in partnership with the Friends of St Nicholas' Chapel and the Heritage Lottery Fund. Since reopening, the chapel has begun a new life as a venue for a range of cultural events including concerts, fairs and exhibitions, as well as public, private and corporate functons.

So good to see some sunshine ☀️

We might be a bit quiet just now but we’re starting off events this year with the welcome return of Silentium Productions Silent Disco on 29th March, followed by a fabulous first for us & them when KLODS - King's Lynn Operatic and Dramatic Society bring their shows here in April!

We’ll see April out with some great concerts from We Love Concerts, finishing off with The Stars From The Commitments ✨ In May we’ve Retro Party Experience taking up residence & doing what they do best, putting on some great nights of entertainment!

Hoping we’ve something for everyone 😇

So if you’ve seen our posts of late you’ll know we’ve had visits from a Norfolk Blood Bikes motorbike & a Retro Party Experience Pac-Man. December has been quite the month as tonight we were visited by a donkey, 2 sheep & some angels 😇

We were delighted to be joined by The Beacon Church for their well attended Live Nativity & Carols in the churchyard. Processing from the Tuesday Market Place everyone played their part to a tee & the carols sounded very festive!

Despite the wretched weather there was a great turnout for King's Lynn Community Choir’s concert last night, all thanks to the audience for braving the storm!

It really was well worth it though for everyone who came along, a varied programme with some challenging pieces but what can we say, the choir were on top form 🎶 They owned it!

This wasn’t just a great night of entertainment though, the choir were raising much needed funds for Kings Lynn Foodbank & Norfolk Blood Bikes ❤️ who brought along one of their bikes to showcase the great work they do. (We thought it looked very fetching parked next to our 15th c bell!)

Thanks also to Friends of St Nicholas’ Chapel for providing the bar, cheers! 🍻

Our Story

St Nicholas’ Chapel is in the care of The Churches Conservation Trust, the national charity protecting historic churches at risk, with support from the Friends of St Nicholas' Chapel.

The Chapel is currently closed for visiting but should reopen in early Spring. We are in urgent need of more volunteers to help hosting visitors and showcasing a historic part of Kings Lynn history. Leave a message here and we will contact you.

The building also operates as a cultural venue for a wide variety of events including concerts and exhibitions, and is available to hire for private and corporate functions.

Tours can be booked for individuals and groups, we also offer school visits and other educational and family activities.
