St Nicholas Chapel KL

St Nicholas Chapel KL Unique historic Chapel operating as a mixed-use venue, available to hire for public & private events
(23)

The largest Chapel of Ease in the country, St Nicholas’ Chapel was originally founded by William Turbus, the third Bishop of Norwich in around 1140. The building we see today is mostly the result of substantial re-building between the late 14th and early 15th centuries, with the exception of the tower, which originally dates from around 1225 and was comprehensively reordered in 1852. The Chapel is

in the care of The Churches Conservation Trust, the national charity saving historic churches at risk, with support from the Freinds of St Nicholas' Chapel. In September 2015 it was reopened following a £2.7m regeneration project, in partnership with the Friends of St Nicholas' Chapel and the Heritage Lottery Fund. Since reopening, the chapel has begun a new life as a venue for a range of cultural events including concerts, fairs and exhibitions, as well as public, private and corporate functons.

So we are again awash with colour on a grey day, but the exhibition closes this afternoon, so if you’d like to see the glorious quilts on display from our good friends Samphire Quilters do come along. So much variety but all made with equal love, care & creativity.

There’s also trade stalls & demos along with refreshments & cake (we love cake).

And if that wasn’t enough to tempt you along the quilters work just as hard supporting local charities as they do making quilts. This year they’re raising funds for Leeway Domestic Violence and Abuse Services & The Fent Shop P F Day and Son’s Colin is on a sewing marathon for Nelson's Journey throughout the exhibition ❤️

The Chapel is currently closed for visiting but should reopen in early Spring. We are in urgent need of more volunteers to help hosting visitors and showcasing a historic part of Kings Lynn history. Leave a message here and we will contact you.

Tours can be booked for individuals and groups, we also offer school visits and other educational and family activities.
