Today is world mental health day and probably an apt day to introduce myself to all my new followers and to thank you for your support. Why is world mental health day important to me, well as well as doing floristry I also work in the nhs and have 28 years of experience working within the field of mental health. I have been a qualified nurse for 25 of those years, and I currently manage a team of community mental health nurses in a very busy and challenging area. For this reason I am passionate about talking about mental health, about removing the stigma attached to mental health and encouraging others to try and improve their mental well-being. Floristry is my other passion and something that I really enjoy, this started out as a simple hobby, for which I quickly got the bug for! I started training in this just before covid hit, which was probably the most challenging time of my nursing career😢floristry help me distress and focus on something that I enjoyed through a time where work was anything but easy. My floristry career has blossomed into something I could never of imagined. This has given me opporunotities to free lance and work with the most amazing wedding florist, this allowed me to really cut my teeth in the floristry industry and have the opportunity to work on some grand scale weddings in some amazing venues. It made me realise that floristry isn’t just playing with flowers, it’s a very challenging industry, that consists of very early starts, long days, heavy lifting, climbing ladders, cleaning buckets, lots of maths calculations for floral recipes, good customer service and business skills. More recently I’ve had a wonderful opportunity through the support of the adult education centre that i initially gained my floristry qualifications in, to go on and gain a teaching adults in education qualification. So now I share my learning with other people who are starting out just like I did, and hopefully inspiring them on their own journey 💐.
So why the name freyja loves floral.
Well she is my most amazing little girl, she is the light of my life, 💕💕💕
So today I bring both passions together and as world mental health days focus is mental health in the work place, I am sharing my experience in my work place and getting some of my colleagues to have some mindfulness time engaging in floral delights, making pumpkin floral arrangements!
So, just a little Thankyou for adding / liking my page. Remember mental health doesn’t discriminate and can affect us all. Don’t be afraid to talk about your mental health, reach out to others and be kind to yourself and each other, we don’t always know what journey someone else is on! X
