Rose Aftercare 🌹

I wanted to share some top tips I’ve learnt over the years caring for your beautiful delicate Rose Bouquets.

1. Use garden shears or sharp scissors to cut about one inch off of each stem at a 45-degree angle

2.Fill a vase two-thirds of the way with lukewarm water.

3. Remove any leaves and foliage from the stems before putting them in the water.
(Decomposing leaves can contaminate the water so make sure none fall in your vase)

4.Adding a sachet of food to the water is a smart way to keep it bacteria-free and to provide the cut flowers with enough nutrients to hold out a bit longer than they might otherwise.
If you don’t have plant food, try one of these DIY preservatives:
•Add a few tablespoons of sugar to a vase filed with lukewarm water. The sugar acts as the plant's food, long after the root supply has been cut off.
•Add an aspirin and a penny to the water to keep the flowers bright and perky for a few extra days. The aspirin lowers the water's pH level, warding off bacteria, and the penny serves as a fungicide.
•Add a bit of bleach to the water. Yes, this last one sounds dangerous, but lots of people swear by it. Be conservative: about 1/4 tablespoon of bleach per quart of water is more than enough. If used in moderation, the bleach helps purify the water.

Top tips

Rinse the stems before putting your roses into a fresh vase of water. You don’t want to contaminate your fresh vase.

If any of the rose petals are browning or changing colour, just pick that full petal out of the rose.

If a rose isn’t looking as “happy” and the head is drooping. try cutting 3 cms off the end diagonally, removing the leaves and thorns. Put the stems in hot water (not boiling), add a splash of bleach, plant food or aspirin then grab a spray bottle and mist your flower heads with room temperature water, don’t be scared to really spray them with your mist bottle. Leave them for 5 hours and they should perk back up.

This one had to be special. They wanted a love heart shape and the colours were to be pink and purple.
