What an honour to perform at the funeral of Rosie in Darlington, today with a small version of our 'Crucible Brass Band. It's always special to be asked to be part of the celebration of a life, especially with these very fine musicians.

The Eugene Farrar Band is performing out of town at Boston Spa 'Jazz in the Spa' this Saturday 16th November. Doors 7 pm. It's a superbly run club that presents a diverse range of bands. We're thrilled to be back after a few years!

What a week we had last week! A jazz funeral in Leeds, and a baby-shower at Newby Hall Ripon at the weekend. The circle of life. What an honour it was, to be asked to provide music for both occasions. Celebration of a full life lived, and celebration of a soon to be new life. Wonderful!

We travelled to Manchester today, in the guise of 'The Crucible Brass Band' to play for a funeral. Only four of us, but what a band! A musical contribution that combined dignity and respect with a celebration of life, it's always an honour to be asked. Apologies to the few people that turned up this evening to our riverside session. Due to very poor weather forecast we had to take the decision to cancel. Some of the players travel over 100 miles so we needed a bit more certainty re the weather.

We posted a notice cancelling the event at 1230 today, pinned it at the top of the page and shared it where we could. We put a notice on the info board by the ruins. We overlooked actually cancelling the event listing, and this might have helped. Sorry for any inconvenience. Hopefully we can do something next year if the weather is on our side. 🤞

PLEASE NOTE ...

TODAY'S RIVERSIDE SESSION IS CANCELLED DUE TO POOR WEATHER FORECAST AND THE DISTANCE SOME PLAYERS NEED TO TRAVEL. sadly with the strong chance of heavy rain and already wet ground, we have had to cancel this evening's event. People travel 200 miles round trip in some cases, so we needed a better forecast to justify continuing today. We're disappointed, but will hopefully go again next year. In the meantime, keep a look on here for other local events.

Today we ventured to Whitehaven, yes all that way! To lead their pride celebration, in our guise as Wonder band! A super afternoon. Great to hook up with our guest Sax player Garry Linsley again. Hope to be back there next year!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all those who came along to 'Jazz Gin & Blues' at Ripley Town Hall, last Saturday Eve. Didn't we have a super night! A complete sell-out with a wait list of over 20 tickets! Without such a wonderful audience the event just wouldn't be as special as it is, year upon year.

A massive thanks to my band, they really are the best musicians to work with, Andy Wallis, Laura Jackson, Ken Hickey, Chris Lloyd and Philip Kampen.

A huge debt of gratitude to the sound and lighting team too, without whom it really would not be the same. The best in the business, Jason Odle and PK.

Finally Andy and his team at Ripley Town Hall (Harrogate) utterly indefatigable in his promotion of live music and culture. What an asset to the region!

We look forward to welcoming you back on June 21st 2025. Yes folks advance tickets are now available on Eventbrite and are actually selling already!

Unfortunately we are unable to bring our JAZZ BY THE RIVERSIDE this year. There are open-air concerts at Cogynham Hall which would conflict 3rd Sept. Availability of musicians on other dates was tricky.

It's been a really special evening the past couple of years. We look forward to doing something similar next summer! Until then, keep an eye out for other events.
