I've been saying for years, Blackpool needs a huge arena....

This seaside resort was built on big talent coming to the resort to entice the crowds from Lancashire working towns and beyond.

In the 50's / 60's and beyond we had Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones etc etc, in more recent years we've managed to get artists on their way up the chain like Amy Winehouse, Ed Sheeran, The Killers, Pet Shop Boys etc etc

We need a 20/25k capacity arena like the Coop Live or Manchester Arena / Echo Arena to entice the A-List celebrities / stars / comedy tours / singers / bands etc

We are so far behind pretending the old Skool charm of blackpool will be enough to keep us going but it's an outdated theory and we need better ideas than trying to make it purely families....

We need the big names to fill hotels, fill restaurants, fill the bars before and after the gigs, it's been the worst season I've ever seen since coming here in the late 70's.

I now own 2 bars in town, Fubar’s Rum Bar Blackpool is going amazing and beating last year, but I'm aimed more at the local market and I offer great value and offers plus a great vibe and I work hard to keep it consistent.

Myself & Dominic Herdman then opened The Retro Lounge Blackpool in August and offer outstanding value and classic cocktails and classic music in a town centre location, it's been good and been well recieved but we can also see the lack of people coming into the town centre post 11pm is affecting all of the town centre venues.

Not just the night time economy, it's affecting everyone. I've never seen the Pleasure Beach so quiet as I have this season as I buy season passes every year for me & my family and we've very rarely seen big que's anymore.

Friends of mine who drive taxi's, own hotels & Guest houses / B&B's all saying it's the worst summer they have ever had. However some businesses like my Rum bar thankfully haven't seen any downturn in trade and are actually up year on year.

But sadly for some they won't survive this winter coming..... We are all waiting the Budget next week and if this government don't help businesses then it's going to be very difficult for businesses to survive. So many are on a knife edge as it is and it's going to see so many people going bust.

We hope and pray that Blackpool Council can come up with a viable and credible alternative to the debacle that is the central development and hope that the government support businesses in the up coming budget announcement....

Remember the 'Eat Out to help out' campaign, now we need another one...

there are so many locally owned businesses surrounded by corporate giants, but even they are struggling and I hate to have to be the one to highlight the challenges we are facing, but nobody else dares to talk about it through fear of sounding negative or highlighting how bad things really are....

Keep supporting your local businesses, use them or lose them.....
