Thank you so much, on only two weekends so far this month, that’s how much has been theoretically saved from the bin in just tableware alone! Say goodbye to soggy plates and full bin bags! Don’t forget we do the washing up 🛁.

Today is UK earth overshoot day. It is the day we'd run out, if everyone on earth lived like we do in the UK. We would need 2.6 earths for everyone to live like we do 🌍🌎🌏 It's 9 weeks earlier than last year!! 😭 It takes into account the natural resources available on the planet, green house gas emissions etc and divides by the number of people. Then looks at each countries usage and here we are. Food, land use, material usage, we'd run out today! The sad fact is, the whole world overshoot day isn't very far behind, this year it's likely to be before the end of July! 😱 It is the opposite of sustainable. Small changes can impact, but this is systemic!

Greenpeace has launched ! they're hoping thousands of people across the UK willcount their plastic waste for one week in May (16th-22nd).
No judgement, this isn’t about feeling guilty about the amount of plastic you use! Too much single-use plastic is produced and there aren’t reusable alternatives that suit everyone’s needs. The idea is to gather the evidence needed to push for proper action on plastic.

Today let's talk helium balloons; they look great and can be a good centrepiece for your party, but unfortunately they aren't currently recyclable! Don't worry though, there are plenty of great fun swaps!
I'm showcasing reusable piñatas, as I love them! Here's one I made earlier from a pizza box and two sheets of tissue paper, in the time it took to listen to the Dirty Dancing soundtrack (I obviously had a few quick breaks 💃🎷 and perfected the lift!) They look great for photo ops and you can fill them with whatever you like for a fun surprise! 🍉
Why ditch the helium?
Added to that, unfortunately the helium also has a fairly hefty ecological footprint 😞 It isn't a pollutant, but the world is running low on accessible helium because of its use in balloons, we need to keep it affordable as it's important for MRI scanners for one thing (and LCD screens to watch Dirty Dancing 🍉)

Sorry to be a party pooper 🙈... let's talk about balloons! Today, we'll focus on latex type balloons used in decoration, for example the balloon garlands which have started to become popular.
There are alternatives which look just as good and can last for years and be recycled once they are no longer usable. We have lots of paper balls and pom poms available to hire, which look just as effective 🌈 Or have a look at Pinterest if you're feeling crafty!
Why do balloons blow? Even though these balloons are made from latex, the process they go through to make them means they won't biodegrade for a really, really, really long time. They are one of the items found most often in a creature's stomach 😞 Have a look at balloonsblow.org for more info if you are interested.

The impact of a throwaway party plate lasts a lot longer than the party.
Paper plates can't be recycled after a party as they will have been contaminated by food waste, most of the pretty coloured or character plates aren't recyclable anyway as they have laminate to make them more durable, so they will just end up in landfill which is a load of old rubbish 🗑️
It takes around 30 litres of water to create an average paper plate. 😱
Finding a reusable alternative whether it be from a party pack, or plates you already have at home or at the venue it's easy to see the environmental benefits. 😁
Don't forget if you use a party pack, most of us will wash up for you! 🧽 Hurray another lazy way to save the planet, one small change at a time! 🎂🌍🎂
There are compostable plates available, but most of the time these can only be industrially composted, our area does this, but the creation of the plate is still material intensive.

Just wanted to gauge the interest on this: would any of you like a storytelling session from Andy online for your kids on a regular basis? We were thinking of offering a story at bedtime? Hi, in these strange and difficult times it's good to find something to distract the mind, I know I need it. My lovely friend creates beautiful embroidery kits, go and have a look at her feed to see what I mean.
