The International N Gauge Show is just over 8 weeks away!

One layout attending the show this year is Shirebrook. TINGS 2024 will be the last time Shirebrook will be seen at an exhibition.

The layout depicts Shirebrook depot during the 1980’s. All stock is weathered some modified. The depot station buildings and bridges are scratch built.

The Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition lecture programme has just been released!

This will include Mark Noel’s talk on building a seismometer and Bob Reeve talking about thread milling.

By popular demand Noel Shelley returns with a presentation on foundrywork as do Malcolm High and Roger Froud who will be giving talks on contrasting aspects of 3D printing.

Brazing can be a challenge, but Shaun Meakin aims to make the task easier for you and finally, MEW Editor, Neil Wyatt, will share some of the more unusual and challenging workshop tasks he’s undertaken in his ten years as editor.

Entering a model into the Midlands Model Engineering Competition gives you a 2 day pass to the exhibition! Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place at the awards ceremony on Sunday 20th October. It's also free to enter!

If you don't want to enter the competition or your model is only part built why not enter it into the display classes, our visitors love to see part built work!

The Society of Model & Experimental Engineers (SMEE) will once again be delivering workshops and demonstrations at this years Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition.

Over the duration of the exhibition the team plan to make multiple sets of the parts and build a number of running examples of the Elmers No 19, showing beginners how they can get started on a lathe! This is the model in more detail. https://www.journeymans-workshop.uk/elmer19.php

For the more experienced model engineer there will also be demonstrations of more complex techniques as well as a range of their famous models on display and a chance to meet the members and learn about their training courses, programme of meetings and membership.

The Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition is gearing up to be a fantastic show this year!

We are pleased to welcome for the first time the Association of Helicopter Aerosports - AHA. They will be joining us with an indoor static display, simulator, and outdoor flying demonstrations! The static display will cover various types and sizes R/C helicopters and their simulator will allow visitors to have a go at flying R/C helicopters.

Weather permitting the AHA will also have an outdoor flying demonstration of scale model helicopters. Models included in the flying demonstrations are a 1/8 scale MH-65 Dauphin, a 1/7 scale Bell UH-1B Iroquois (Huey) and a 1/8 scale Westland Lynx HMA Mk8.

We will be releasing new information over the coming months so keep an eye out!

Joining us at the International N Gauge Show in September is the N-Club-international-Module-Group with their layout from South Germany to England!

The modular layout is designed to be built up in different shapes and sizes, allowing international partner clubs to create hall filling layouts. Every layout is individually designed for each exhibition.

This year’s layout for TINGS will show different scenes along a typical modern German electrified main line. You’ll pass the Monastery of “Blaubeuren”, fields, rivers, farms, a typical train depot and an impressive steel bridge with a funicular at the side. At the end of the tour, you make a turn at “Stonehenge”. The concept is an end-to-end traffic with a fiddle yard feeding the main line with changing train sets.

The competition is free to enter, with prizes being award for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. You will also receive a 2 day pass to the exhibition!

Long Hirston will be one of the many layouts attending this years International N Gauge Show!

Long Hirston is an award winning, entertaining N Gauge modular layout built and exhibited by members of the Northumberland Area Group of the N Gauge Society.
People often comment that they didn’t realise the layout was modular as the different baseboards blend well with each other!

A four track loop with an automated fiddleyard to allow for plenty of movement and good range of trains. Some of the modules have yards which allows for additional shunting. Each module has a different theme, some of which are not frequently modelled, for example the oil refinery and power station.

Definitely a layout not to be missed!

The International N Gauge Show has over 30 layouts, clubs and societies as well as over 30 suppliers who will have everything you need!

The Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition hosts over 30 clubs and societies as well as over 35 suppliers, the Fosse Way steamers will also be on show! We will have a variety of lecturers and demonstrations for the visitors enjoyment.

Don't forget to enter your model in the Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition competition, with 16 display and 16 competition classes, even if you don't want to enter the competition you can display your model with us!

The Midlands Garden Rail Show is this weekend!

With the Midlands Garden Rail Show less than 3 months away, we wanted to introduce a layout new to the show for 2024!

Blackgang! Famous for smuggling activities of years gone by is on the most southerly part of the Isle of Wight at St Catherine’s Point. There were several proposed railway lines that never got off the ground including one line from Ventnor to Freshwater. It is on this basis that I have arrived at Blackgang. The location is now well known for the Blackgang Chine Theme Park on the cliff edge with pirates and dinosaurs as its main theme.
Blackgang is unusual within the model railway shows as having no electrical supply through the track. All the engines used are radio controlled with onboard power supplies from rechargeable batteries. All the points are manually operated as on the garden railways that many of the Gauge 3 and 2½” gauge modelers have.
The track layout is loosely based upon Bembridge and incorporates other Island characteristics. The majority of engines and stock used are authentic Isle of Wight examples, but there are often visiting Gauge 3 members who bring stock from other regions.
