If you’re a bride-to-be, one of the most important and exciting entries on your wedding to-do list will of course be finding your wedding dress… & when you do start searching, you’ll find that many designers state lead times of minimum 6- 9 months, sometimes 12 months to make your dress (that doesn’t include alterations!)… So how far in advance should you be looking for your dream dress?

𝑻𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒚’𝒔 𝒔𝒂𝒚:

The ideal time to start the hunt for the perfect dress is around 12-18 months before your big day. This might seem like a long time, but many brides use their wedding dress as the starting point for all wedding decisions. Your choice of dress could shape your theme, colour scheme and even your venue.

You also need time to determine your budget. Your dress might be one of the bigger expenses on the day, so choosing your dress well in advance will give you a better idea of how much you have left for the rest of your wedding.

You want your wedding dress to fit like a glove, which means every wedding dress will need to be altered to your body. Allow 10-12 weeks before your wedding for final alterations - you normally need multiple appointments!

We’re on Christmas countdown which means Tilly’s will be closing from 22nd December -2nd January. Please be mindful if your wedding is before July 2025, that your dress needs to be ordered this year in order to be made in time! 🤍

On that note, we are lucky enough to have welcomed so many amazing brides-to-be to Tilly’s the last few months! Due to being fully booked, we have received a lot of messages from disappointed 2025 brides that are unable to book an appointment. We have also noticed an influx in 2026 brides booking appointments that aren’t quite ready to commit to their dress yet. Just a gentle reminder to only book an appointment when you’re ready to say yes to your dress, to ensure everyone has an opportunity to buy their Tilly’s dress 🫶🏼
