The Walled Garden has been planted with 30 different varieties of apples alongside pears, plums, peaches, mulberries and medlars. The fruit from the trees is harvested in October to make our Homme Pommes apple juice.

Hay cutting is about to begin so we're enjoying the last few days of long golden grass.

The Parkland in front of Homme House is a view that changes through the year. The foreground is full of wild daffodils in March before the parkland trees come into leaf in April and the parkland grass is grown for hay through the summer months. Then the colours of autumn are enjoyed through September and October, with the central "Red Oak" as the star performer.

The trees in the foreground are part of a line forming the "Coronation" planting for Queen Elizabeth II back in 1953.

20 years ago today Alex and Gary joined us at the start of a new chapter of life at Homme, as we opened our home for the first time for their wedding celebrations.

We have spent a little time today reflecting on all that has happened since, what an adventure it has been, and how much we have to be grateful for. We want to thank Alex and Gary, and every couple who has since chosen Homme for such a special occasion, for the love, life and laughter they have filled our home with. It is thanks to your choice and your support that the house, Summerhouse and gardens have made their way back from a state of near dereliction at the end of the last century to the place Homme is today.

Over the years the house, Summerhouse and St. Bartholomew's Church have been captured in many beautiful illustrations in the stationery for weddings taking place at Homme. Featured here is a delightful selection designed by Amber Rankin () as a personal commission for Emily's & Will's wedding in April earlier this year.

In celebration of 20 years of weddings at Homme we would love to stage a digital exhibition of the diverse ways in which the place has been artistically captured. If you have a sketch, pen drawing, watercolour, gouache, oil or digital illustration you would like to share we would love to see it! Drop us an email at [email protected]. We look forward to sharing the results in due course.

We have been busy getting the gardens ready for a visit from the who are hosting their AGM here today.

It's a lovely time of year, with the parkland and gardens in their first flush with the promise of (fingers crossed) summer ahead. In May last year the guests at A&J's wedding walked back through the parkland in beautiful sunshine after their marriage service at St. Bartholomew's and up into the Walled Garden for reception drinks.

We always enjoy seeing the different views of the gardens captured by videographers and photographers at Homme House. This aerial footage of the Walled Garden was taken by and shows the structure of the espaliered apple trees, the long herbaceous borders, the wild flower meadow, pleached hornbeam, cherry walkway and plum walkway.

The Walled Garden would have once been a kitchen garden, requiring 6 full time gardens to maintain it (we now have 1 part time!). Census data from 1901 shows that there were 19 gardeners living the parish of Much Marcle at that time, presumably the majority of them working at Homme. However the decimation of man power and funds in the wake of WW1 precipitated the decline of many walled gardens around the country, including ours. In recent history the walled garden was cultivated as an orchard in the 1980s and then for Christmas trees in the 1990s. The Christmas trees were removed in the early 2000s and for that decade the walled garden remained a derelict space waiting for restoration funds to build up from the newly established wedding business. The current planting scheme in the Walled Garden began in 2011 to coincide with the restoration of the Summerhouse. We have enjoyed hosting many "Walled Garden Weekends" with our friends over the years - we are so grateful to them for the hard work that has gone into transforming the garden into the glorious space it is today.

It's always very special for us when couples keep in touch after their wedding.

Today we had a lovely visit from Laura and Andy and their rescue dog Daisy to celebrate their 4th wedding anniversary. We went for a walk together in the Homme woodlands and visited the bluebell glade where they had a very intimate civil ceremony back in 2021 with just their 2 mums present as witnesses.

We then welcomed them back again in March 2022 for a larger wedding celebration with friends and family.

Married life has been full of adventures so far - not least the adoption of Daisy, a rescue all the way from Spain. She already has a much larger following on Instagram than we will ever have! Follow her story

Sean and his lovely team from were here this morning erecting our first marquee of the year for C&H's wedding reception tomorrow. Harrison Marquees have supported us throughout our 20 years of hosting weddings, in addition to supplying marquees for our charity balls.

We are so glad to be working with them again for the Hommedinger, our Ball taking place on 29th June this year in aid of and in memory of John Finnigan.

Here's a selection of photos by of K&P's wedding back in May 2022 with Sean's marquee beautifully decorated with flowers from Hannah

Weather permitting we will be having our first ceremony on the Summerhouse lawn tomorrow. For garden ceremonies the signing of the marriage register can either take place outside with the backdrop of the Summerhouse and Walled Garden or, like C&J, as a more intimate moment inside the Summerhouse Upper Chamber and captured here in the September sun by
