Andrew Sims Centre The Andrew Sims Centre (ASC) is part of the Learning and Organisational Development Team within Leeds and York Partnerships NHS Foundation Trust.

The Andrew Sims Centre is dedicated to providing high quality continuing professional development (CPD) courses for all medical and healthcare professionals at different stages of their career. Over the last thirteen years the ASC has built its reputation as a leading provider of continuing professional development (CPD) events for mental health and learning disability professionals. The ASC progr

amme focusses on evidence-based clinical and therapeutic practices for a national multidisciplinary audience. The ASC also provides an event management service and design and delivery of bespoke training tailored to your needs. Our Name
The Centre is named after Professor Andrew Sims; a former Dean (1987-1990) and President (1990-3) of the Royal College of Psychiatrists' and the first Director of Continuing Professional Development (from 1993-7) also at the Royal College of Psychiatrists'. He worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist for Leeds Partnerships NHS Foundation Trust when it was Leeds Community and Mental Health Services Teaching NHS Trust. Amongst his many achievements, he was instrumental in establishing Tuke House as a community unit for the treatment of neurosis, developed the specialist PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) service and was heavily involved in the development of the Yorkshire Centre for Eating Disorders. All our events are available to staff from NHS Trusts, public sector, private and voluntary (third) sector health and social care agencies.

The talk will also focus on how the online environment could pose a risk for individuals with su***de ideation.

Check out our new animation on what to expect at an Andrew Sims Centre course. Of course our events will differ but on the whole they often follow the same timetable. Once you've arrived at the venue, using the information provided by us, you will see one of the ASC Team at a registration table ready to sign you in. Once signed in, you can help yourself to a tea or coffee, and make yourself comfortable in the room. During the breaks, refreshments will be available and the ASC Team will always be there to assist with any queries you may have during the day. At lunch-time the ASC Team will direct you to the right place and will ensure that all dietary requirements are met, provided you've let us know ahead of time. At the end of an event there will be a QR code presented for you all to scan and provide feedback about how the day went; including questions about the speakers, the venue and the ASC Team. You don't want to miss out on this fantastic course. Innate Health is running on Monday 27th January 2024 face-to-face in Leeds. The course is being led by Mary Franklin-Smith, HCPC Drama and Movement Therapist/MANTRA Therapist and IH Coach, and Dr Rhys Jones, Consultant Psychiatrist, CONNECT, Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. This event is dedicated to the memory of Dr Monique Schelhase who passed away in the summer of 2024 after her battle with Cancer. Monique was a close colleague of both Rhys and Mary and played an integral role in facilitating the IH research that took place at Connect.
