When I met with Rose & James for a coffee last week, we all agreed their wedding was perfect. The dress, the sunshine, the light breeze, the sail cloth marquee in the grounds of the family home, the food, the Vicar, mums slippers hidden in a bush, the one Church bell rang by a reluctant wedding guest… and of course, the flowers.

The most beautiful collection of garden roses, jasmine, peonies, sweet peas… heaven.

H O T 🌸 P I N K // unashamedly pink. Glorious, vibrant and somewhat over the top… a lot like our darling Maggie herself!

We are in full carnival mode at Bliss Cottage today. The gang are coming to help get the decorations up, mums down at the allotment collecting the veg for the salads, I’m collecting the Unicorn cake at 4pm….. team work makes the 4 yr olds carnival party dream work!

Talking of team work, my upcoming course Flourish & Master opens tomorrow so there’s one more day to jump on the waitlist to be the first to hear about this amazing programme.

This 4mth programme will run from Sept - Jan, it’ll be a group mentoring programme, with online classes, in person installation and skill day, and a fabulous retreat!

It’s aimed at florists who really want to up their game, push their business forward and expand their skill set, portfolio and community.

I believe it’s going to be a game changer for those on board. It’ll be a limited number of florists so I can commit my time to the individual.

Made me giggle when I first spotted it on a site visit with Izzy’s lovely mum…

Such a profound statement, with such hope! Anyway it’s Friday. Bring on the sins!

It’s a slow day here today, after a week of early morning swim club, it’s a steady start, the off to picnic with pals, then cycling to the pub. What a wholesome Friday, and most likely a few sins thrown in for good measure.

Nestled in the heart of the village, the stunning little Church had a the full works!

A glorious floral arch, greeted Izzy who wanted a formal, full flower look, nothing too wild but abundant with scented roses, hydrangeas and delphiniums.

Inside the Church were windows of tumbling seasonal flowers, a fountain urn, glorious pulpit design and the South window garden design. It was a labour of love….

M & S at Borthwick Castle, Scotland.

I was up a ladder clinging to a huge urn as the violinist practiced ‘Sky fall’ and the wind almost took the two of us over the castle wall…

Everything about this wedding was epic, the smile on the Brides face as the wind whipped her veil, the tenacity of the guests holding onto their hats, the beautiful blend of two families coming together in one extraordinary Scottish Castle.

To this fabulous pair of humans, thank you, we had a blast!

Oh hello May, you finally made it, and in a disheveled state I see? What’s with the sun, rain, wind, sun…. I haven’t got a clue whether it’s wellies or white trainers.

But you have brought the apple and haw blossom, and some blue skies. It makes my heart sings seeing nature so verdant and lush.

How have we reached the fifth month of the year?

We created this foam free arch, packed full of hydrangeas and delphiniums, the sail cloth marquee saw a dramatic tablescape of bronzed candelabras, bowls of zesty limes and blueberries, herbs for scent and artichokes as name placements. Happy 2 years & Rob!

I’m a sucker for a well dressed stair case. Our fabulous Country houses have the most glorious staircases just begging to be dressed. It’s a key investment if you’re getting wed at a venue that holds one in the centre of its beauty. Your guests will greeted by those steps, no doubt you’ll walk down them moments before you wed, and most likely take them back up as your first evening as Newly Weds… say no more!

I always urge my Clients to pass the sections of the design onto their guest the following morning, we can add plants and shrubs in too, forever keep sakes of the day.

And as Mr Bacon said we rise to great heights via smalls steps… today I’m climbing Snowdon with a fabulous gang of women. Currently it’s hailing outside 🤪

It’s been a while since I said ‘hello’

How’s your weekend in the Spring Sun shaping up? We are heading to Norfolk for the weekend, loads of beaches, pubs, walks and family time… 💫🤸🏻‍♂️

Weekends off are cherished when you’re a wedding florist, and I used to feel slightly uneasy when I wasn’t working. Like a strange sense of guilt of shame that I wasn’t doing a wedding…

But times have changed I’ve learnt to balance work so much better, and that was down to pricing my jobs correctly, managing my money better and having boundaries that brought space and time. And ultimately gave me a time to breathe and love my job even more!

Burn out is common in the floristry world, it’s a hard game. But we don’t need to scramble for all the work, there’s plenty to go round, you can say ‘No’ to stuff qnd not be forced to live off dust sandwiches!

✨So April is here again, the tulips are in full bloom and peony season is on the horizon!

Been a funny few years hasn’t it? This time 4 years ago the wedding industry was at a stand still, fast forward two years we had weddings every blinking day of the week and here we are four years on wondering what the chuff is going on!

Speaking to so many in the industry there seems to be common theme…. Numbers are down. And it’s natural to be when you think about it… people didn’t connect during Covid, so they didn’t get engaged so they aren’t going to marry 3.5 years later….

So one things for sure we need to be on the ball with the work with have, making profitability the goal, 2024 will work for us.

Filling my designs with all the textures and scents is an element some Clients maybe don’t appreciate. It’s the little things behind the scenes that create the show stopping florals.

H E C K F I E L D // Assembly. The blank canvas was transformed for E&As ceremony, this is where we brought in trees and shrubs, full meadow aisle and glorious broken arch.

Sustainability is something we try our best at, we aren’t perfect but we are always pushing ourselves to become better. The arch was entirely foam free, the meadow aisle mechanics were Agra wool, a lot of the foliage was locally sourced, the whole design was relocated for the reception and the trees and shrubs were distributed to guests and family after the petals settled and the celebrations were over.

Another floral fleeting moment created for a lifetime of memories.

I N V E S T // there’s no denying wedding flowers are a large cost within your budget but it’s almost worth remembering they will be in all your cherished images, they are the backdrop to your day. The scent will evoke memories, the guests will talk about them for years to come… and some will continue to bring joy for years after.

We often include plants within our arrangements so the guests or family can take them and plant them after. Next week sees us installing an abundance of trees for the Bride & Groom, many of which will be delivered to family after, to cherish and watch grow for years to come.

It’s a lovely way to be a little more sustainable within your wedding… what are your plans for sustainability within your wedding? Is it something you have considered, or look for your suppliers to consider… I’d love your thoughts.

V A L E N T I N E // here’s to the hero who holds my dress when I conga, catches my legs when I hand stand, fills the foliage and flowers at the top of the floral arches, fixes the broken tap and brings me the best cup of tea of my day every morning. Thank you Mr Bish 🤍🤍🤍

I’ve not touched a flower this Valentines, chose to spend it with my littlest bean, albeit at soft play. Not sure if I’d rather be stripping 1000 roses or wiping snotty noses…. But it’s family first this year. As they are my true loves.

The biggest thank you for the incredible flowers you did for our wedding! They were even better than i’d imagined you doing, we had so many comments from guests and are so grateful that we were able to work with you! Your ideas were so good and the installation above the bar was so clever! It’s was great being able to repurpose the flowers from the church too.

H & T had the most incredible array of mature trees in the grounds of their beautiful home, we were able to go wild with the glorious branches of scented pine, birch, and holly. Just ideal for this Winter wedding. I do love marquee weddings at home, the buzz of the whole event coming together, the unique touches at every turn, the communal snacking, endless trays of teas being brought out… it’s my favourite. Getting know the gang, and this one was no different, brothers sorting out our ropes, mum making millionaire shortbread, the best men ferrying cases of champagne… real home grown love.

J O Y O U S // The tree is down, the decorations are packed away, only a few days til the children go back. And it’s been joyous, the best for years.

And here’s the new year ahead… so much to plan, places to visit with our flowers, darling Brides & Grooms from across the globe.

I cannot wait to get tucked in!

Here’s the joyous shots of P & D last Autumn at Oundle Chapel, where P went to school, the most incredible chapel… then reception within the grounds of her parents home, those arches reminded me of Roman Baths. It was so beautiful.

Let’s talk marquees….

For L&Ds clear span we added draping, dozens of rattan lampshade for texture, and a whole silver birch tree, and half a eucalyptus. And this is not an exaggeration! The marquee was within the grounds of the Brides parents home, and a silver birch had been earmarked for removal… so we snapped it up! I love working with materials from Clients homes and gardens. It’s reduces waste, carbon food print and couldn’t be more locally grown.

The drapes were an addition on the week of the wedding, as it topped 30 degrees. The Bride had chosen a September wedding to avoid any heat waves… erm… well Mother Nature had other plans! So the clear span became a green house, but workout closely with the family and marquee company we were able to bring shade and some light relief. Our flowers survived the heat in huge vases, and water phials… as we had included seasonal plants of foxgloves, heathers and grasses, I was confident they would stand up to the extreme weather.

It was a challenge, but we rose to it! No pun intended…

“And all at once, summer collapsed into fall.” – Oscar Wilde.

Yes Oscar, you’re quite right. But then it changed its mind and leapt back to thirty degrees in mid September. But this was one to remember…

We designed this arch in several, separate floral elements. We created our signature, floriferous arch based on the same framework as a certain royal wedding… then we added in stages to bring the design forward, large foam free baskets of wild foliages and seasonal blooms. Then with attention to detail we brought in plants about the base, natural grasses and heathers. These were then gifted to family members as keep sakes of L&Ds day.

Then we moved the whole design to the reception, yes all of it.

This was the third and final instalment of a trilogy of Baxter weddings over 6 years, bringing it back to where we first designed and created A&Ds wedding.

Goodness knows I love an arch, a porch, an aisle of florals… and even better when we have the opportunity to utilise and not waste a single stem…
