Austin “Spiderman” Palmer, founder and selector of the Mighty Jah Observer sound system, began his musical journey in the late 1960s, maintaining his unique style throughout the evolution of reggae. His system stands out for its valve-driven rig and soulful cultural vibes, contrasting with contemporary trends. After three decades at Notting Hill Carnival, Spiderman played his final Carnival in 2011 before retiring to Jamaica. Nonetheless, the legacy of Jah Observer endures, celebrating its 50th anniversary with a commitment to promoting social consciousness and peace through reggae’s roots.

It was about time! Which will be the sound systems giving power to the River Station? This year we are pleased to announce that will be one of them!

“We are a passionate collective of music lovers who embarked on our journey back in 2007, exploring and playing Roots Reggae vinyl records in the bars of Málaga. Since then, the idea of building our own sound system has always been in our minds. An inspiring trip to London to witness Jah Shaka left us with a firm determination to create our own sound system by the end of 2012.

Our sessions are a unique experience. We spin records with a single turntable, following the pure UK style, selecting tracks ranging from classic Roots from the seventies to vibrant contemporary Roots and Dub productions, always with a conscious vibe. We are deeply influenced by the masters Jah Shaka, Channel One and Aba Shanti. We proudly belong to the West London school, taking our audience on a musical journey through time, from the early days of Reggae to today’s UK scene.

But we are more than just music. Our purpose extends beyond the beats. In addition to sharing the sound system culture, our message is one of unity, strength, peace and love - a powerful antidote to the chaos that surrounds us. We believe that music is a universal language that can bridge gaps and ignite positive change.

And here’s the twist: we’re mad sound system builders. Over the past decade, we’ve changed our sound equipement three times in pursuit of perfection. Our latest setup, which may well be the definitive one, proudly bears the Stravens brand. Our obsession with sound quality has led us to explore different configurations, speakers, and amplifiers. Each upgrade has been a step forward in our quest for the ultimate sonic experience.

So, when you see us at the festival, know that we’re not just music enthusiasts—we’re passionate sound architects. Get ready to feel the vibrations of our Stravens speakers! 🌟🎵🔊”

We are honored to announce the HIM DUB Line up officially open, with a very special artist, !

Steve Johnson, also known as RAS MUFFET, has been a major figure in the music scene for over 40 years. He began his career alongside the legendary Jah Shaka and founded the Jah Marcus sound system in Wolverhampton.

In the early 80s, he established Studio Fari where he focused on music production. In 1999, he founded the Roots Injection label. As a talented producer, he provided dubplates to some of the biggest names such as Aba Shanti, Iration Steppa, Channel One, and many others. He developed his own style characterized by powerful productions deeply rooted in reggae traditions while embracing a modern approach. His productions are always expertly mixed.

Steve Johnson aka RAS MUFFET is a true pillar of reggae and dub music, having significantly contributed to the evolution of these genres over the decades.
