TUESDAY 21ST OF JUNE.

THE DIME NOTES.

Get your tickets early for this superb & hugely popular band!

David Horniblow – clarinet, Sam Watts-piano, Dave Kelbie-guitar, Louis Thomas-bass.

The Dime Notes – small band, huge swing! Blues drenched clarinet-driven 1920’s jazz with London's hard-swinging vintage jazz band.

Dime Notes.jpg
The Dime Notes dig back into the blues-drenched sounds of clarinet-driven 1920’s New Orleans jazz, unearthing a repertoire of stomps, blueses, and forgotten gems of the era from musicians such as Jelly Roll Morton, Johnny Dodds, and Red Nichols.

Fronted by Chris Barber’s long-time clarinetist David Horniblow, an established figure on the European jazz stage and pianist/composer/ Sam Watts, the band is anchored by the unstoppable pulse of London’s knockout rhythm section, guitarist Dave Kelbie, accompanist in Evan Christopher’s Django a la Creole, John Etheridge’s Sweet Chorus and bassist Louis Thomas, well known across the international scene for his swing and versatility and in demand across many genre boundaries with his huge sound and stylistic versatility.

The Dime Notes present a fresh take on a timeless style, emphasising the propulsive grooves and sultry melodies which made early jazz revolutionary, controversial, and wild!

Next Tuesday 29th March another great Jazz night at Annies Jazz - TUESDAY 29TH OF MARCH.

DAVID TUGHAN performs his new show

THE LIVELY ONES.

Inspired by some of the legendary vocalists of the past David will be focusing on some of the music of great singers such as:-

Bobby Darin, Matt Monro, Tony Bennett, Vic Damone, Jack Jones and Mel Tormé & Johnny Heartman.

David captures the essence of these wonderful singers with a few surprises along the way, alongside his trio of Tim Lapthorn - Piano, Tom Herbert - Bass & Matt Skelton - Drums

The Times, The Guardian and The Observer have compared David’s vocal style to that of Mel Tormé and Chet Baker. Although his roots are firmly planted in the tradition of the classic Jazz singer, David delights in finding new ways to explore the Great American Songbook which results in a sound that is fresh, innovative and fun.

With his Jazz trio, David has performed in clubs and theatres in New York, London, Amsterdam, Kuala Lumpur, Dublin and Vienna. He weaves a soulful thread of Pop into his classic Jazz repertoire which – combined with his distinctive use of loops, harmony, beat boxing and comedy – makes him unique amongst his contemporaries.

"The epitome of cool" Dave Gelly – The Guardian

His debut Jazz album Just in Time was ‘record of the week’ in The Guardian, and his follow-up album with the Jim Mullen Organ Trio – Builders Brew – was described by Times Jazz critic, Clive Davis, as possessing “the spirit of Sinatra”. David’s albums have been favourably reviewed in The Times, The Guardian, Jazzwise, The Jazz Journal, Jazz UK, Crescendo & Jazz Magazine, Musician Magazine, UK and All About Jazz.

"One of the best in the business" Brian Blain – Musician Magazine

“A rising star – a cross between Mel Torme and Chet Baker” Crescendo & Jazz Magazine

TUESDAY 22ND OF FEBRUARY.

THE RED STRIPE BAND.
One of the most popular bands to appear at Annie's Jazz.

“During lockdown the band have been working on songs for a new album to be released in 2022. They will be playing two tracks from the album “you want chips with that” and “if you can’t do it right” the latter tells the story of a couple in lockdown in a bed sit in Soho “

The Red Stripe Band are enjoying their 26th year in the business. They are an incredible septet led by Neil Drinkwater playing jive, boogie-woogie, swing & rock n' roll. They have played at virtually every jazz and blues festival in the UK and picked up best newcomer at Montreux Jazz Festival in 2010. Expect to be entertained with both original songs and other boogie woogie, swing and rock n roll classics in an engaging, ever moving and comical show.
They are asked back year after year to several jazz and blues festivals including Edinburgh, Derry, Umbria, Marlborough, Birmingham to name but a few. They have performed for the Royal families oo no less than five countries and have shared a stage with Sting, Madonna, Van Morrison, Eddi Reader and Chris Barber.

The band has a great time wherever it goes – infectious energy filling the venue with on and off stage antics!

Reach For It
Wed 9th Feb 2022 | 8:00pm - 11:00pm
Reach For It – The Genius of George Duke, featuring Gina Foster on vocals

Reach For It celebrate the jazz funk groove of the master musician George Duke, an American musician, known as a keyboard pioneer, composer, singer and producer in both jazz and popular mainstream musical genres.

His legacy as a recording artist is vast, from Cannonball Adderley to Jean-Luc Ponty, Frank Zappa to Michael Jackson, to over 40 recordings as a solo artist. Simply put, George forever changed the landscape of jazz, r&b, funk, pop and classical music. Tracing his work from the Zappa years through a glittering, multi-album solo career, the heavyweight collaborations (Billy Cobham, Stanley Clarke) and Montreux triumphs, Dukey’s music provides the melodic soul enriched canvas for these outstanding players to express themselves.

On the night expect impeccable ensemble musicianship combined with friendly funk and some very groovy jazz – plus solos to take the breath away!
