IT’S BEEN A WHILE

It’s certainly been a while since I’ve picked up my cord and I’m happy to say that I’m glad to be back doing what I love.

I’ve been working away on a commission but I’m not quite finished yet. However as always I have my trusted companion Teddy 🐶 by my side. He is always there and has been a massive help to me over this last year. He might not be able to talk to me but he is a comfort, alongside the knotting!

So here’s a sketch of the tree of life I’m working on whilst the pup watches over me!

A LEAP OF FAITH

As the tradition goes, leap day is a time when women are properly “allowed” to propose marriage.

And this is exactly what I did 16 years ago in 2008!

We were on holiday in the south of France. It’s was a gorgeous sunny day. I’d spent the morning a nervous wreck pacing up and down, deciding just how I was going to get him on his own. I made up some story about a big fish I had seen in the river at the end of garden of the house we were staying at. He came out with me to have a look (of course there was nothing there!). I hid behind the big tree, took off a ring I was wearing and jumped out, got on one knee and proposed. Luckily he said yes and 8 months later we were married. I miss him every day and this day will always have a special memory for me.

It maybe a tradition that isn’t used a lot these days but how did it come about in the first place?

It’s an Irish tradition that legend has it that St. Brigid of Kildare complained to St. Patrick that women had to wait too long for the men to ask them for their hand in marriage and so St. Patrick agreed that on the extra day of a leap year, women could propose to men. I guess this was quite for forward-thinking at the time!

NEW BEGINNINGS

A massive thanks to everyone who has supported me last year. From buying my items, signing up to my mailing list, being there for words of wisdom and encouragement, it really means a lot.

Last year was the toughest I’ve ever had from a personal perspective. Losing my husband and the grief suffered was really hard to deal with. I felt like giving everything up but I remembered how my macrame was good for my mental health. I needed that creative outlet to refocus the horrible thoughts and feelings in my head.

Although I’ve been slow to get back, I love what I do and I love getting creative. I’ve got lots of plans for this year and new macrame products I want to launch.

I going to do this for my husband and make him proud. It’s made me realise that life is too short not to follow your dreams.

Thank you for sticking by me and for getting this far.

Love Jo ###
