We are a small family run business who want to support local families in our community. I started this journey shortly after returning to work from an amazing 10 months of maternity leave with my little boy, Henry. One of our favourite things to do together is go to a baby classes – and believe me, we have been to plenty. Henry loves to explore, make friends and have fun, but he rarely has the opp
ortunity to get messy. Between the lack of space in our house and not having the time (or patience) to deal with the cleaning up afterward – the only messy play Henry gets to engage in, is when he throws his yogurt everywhere. That’s where the idea for Messy Munchkins came from. I originally qualified in children’s care, learning and development and worked as a nursery nurse for a number of years. Although my career path led me in a different direction, I have always enjoyed working with children. After hundreds of conversations and brainstorming with my wonderfully supportive husband, and a bit of a push, here we are… Messy Munchkins aims to provide friendly, fun and affordable messy play sessions that support your baby’s development. Messy play is not only beneficial for physical development but also social and emotional development, communication, understanding of the world and creativity too. Your little one will have the opportunity to explore new textures, colours and smells, which not only engages their senses but their curiosity too. Here are just some of the benefits of messy play:
• Gross/fine motor skills
• Communication
• Handwriting and mark making skills
• Confidence building
• Problem solving
• Social interactions
• Awareness of personal space and that of others
• Boosts mood and well being
• Promotes understanding of the world through exploratory play
• Promotes creativity and imaginative play
There are so many benefits to giving babies and children the opportunity to engage in messy play sessions - here at Messy Munchkins they are free to nurture their curiosity. Messy Munchkins sessions are not just about your little one – they’re for parents too! Whether you are just looking for a fun activity to do with your munchkin or want to expand your support network then we are here for you. Inclusivity is extremely important to us at Messy Munchkins and it is our aim to ensure that we can support our clients as much as we can. I know that allergies can be extremely stressful for families (my nephew has a dairy allergy). Messy Munchkins sessions can be planned around your child’s allergy. If you are booking on to a term then we will work with you to plan the term to ensure that you and your little one can enjoy our sessions as much as possible – we will do as much as possible to give you peace of mind and keep your baby safe! About Our Sessions
Each one hour session will have a subtle theme for you and your baby to explore. You will need to bring a towel and a change of clothes for your little one – we will provide everything else. Our sessions, although jam-packed with fun, will be relaxed and free flowing. At the start of each session there will be an area for you and you little one to get settled and have a look round what’s set up for the session – I dread jumping straight in to an activity with Henry… sometimes the journey there has been so stressful just need a second to catch my breath and compose myself! then you can explore the mess at your own pace. We will provide facilities for you to get your little one clean and dressed before we to bring the session to a close. It’s important to me that each session is fun, welcoming and completely baby-led! Some sessions may be messier than others but there will always be a play station set up that does not include messy play. We have tried our best to keep our prices as low as we can to ensure sessions are as affordable as possible! Sibling discounts are available (and older siblings can attend for free during school holidays).
