I took this photo… I’m going to start talking about some of my favourite photos. Why? Because I miss CDs and vinyl. What’s that to do with my photos I hear you ask?!? You know in the “old days” when you would buy physical music and on the inside of the little book that came with the CD, there would be pictures of your favourite singer and artwork, together with the lyrics and sometimes words and stories about the songs. Well, I miss that. Sometimes the words helped me to connect with the singer, the band and their music. So, inspired by that, I thought I’d start talking about some of my favourite photos. Usually grab shots filmed on my iPhone for Instagram, TikTok and FaceBook. But largely for my memories. I see wedding photography as a collaboration. Even though I’m there to photograph the day for my couples, I’m on the adventure too. My best photos come when I’m truly present and I feel connected with the couple, their guests and the celebration. Often, after a wedding, I am emotionally drained. I’ve been on the “ride” with the couple. It doesn’t help that I’m an empath and I throw myself into each wedding 110%. People invite me into their lives and I get a front-row seat to the best day of their lives. And for that, I’m truly grateful that I get to do this for a living. As a photographer, working with Jen and Luke at Peckforton Castle was a joy. The love they share, their sense of fun, and their laid-back personalities made it easy to capture real, candid moments that reflect who they are as a couple. When they mentioned not wanting to spend too much time posing for formal shots, I knew that my documentary style would be a perfect fit for them. We had a relexed and fun day from start to finish. It was important to Jen and Luke that their day unfolded naturally, and I made sure to blend in with the guests, capturing the candid emotions and special moments as they happened. Their spontaneous race during the sunset shoot is the perfect example of how I like to photograph—allowing couples to be themselves and creating memories that go beyond just traditional portraits. Their day was filled with elegance, fun, and love—and I’m honored to have been a part of it. This is an emotional post for me to write. As I reflect on the power of photography, the journey it takes me on, and the people I get to meet and connect with. During Hannah and Callum’s Belsfield Hotel wedding, I arranged a video message from Opera singer Russell Watson for the father of the bride John, a cancer patient. I have since learned that John has sadly passed away.
