On this day (12th February) in 1843 John Graham Chambers was born in Llanelly House. John was the architect of the Queensberry Rules of Boxing (named for close friend the Marquess of Queensberry); introducing to the sport the regulated ring size, boxing gloves, three-minute rounds, and the count of ten.

He is now lauded in the International Boxing Hall of Fame for his part in the sport’s history. Furthermore, John founded the Amateur Athletic Club and was pivotal in the creation of the Amateur Athletic Association in 1880.
