❄️ Winter solstice blessings ❄️

And so we reach the winter solstice, the sun stands still, with the least amount of light and the longest hours of dark. It seems very right that this should be my last day in the shop of 2024. And on this day I also say goodbye to this trees piece, an absolute favourite of mine (I know I say that a lot!)

The solstice marks a time to review and reflect on the past 6 months and to put some thought to where you may wish to see yourselves in 6 months time at the summer solstice.

I’m so full of gratitude for everything in my life, and have had the best year with White Flamingo. A heartfelt thankyou to each and every one of you who supports this little piece of my heart, I mean it when I say it means the world.

And White Flamingo isn’t going anywhere - I will be BACK January 2025, new pieces are already waiting in the wings and I can’t wait for the returning of the light, dreaming of the summer months and making exciting plans to celebrate each turning of time.

Sure there’ll be a few posts from me over the next couple of weeks, but for now I’d like to say I hope you all have a wonderful festive time, full of celebrations and cheer and time to rest x

Well I can’t quite believe we’re in the last week of opening before Christmas!

I am open late night on Thursday 19th 10-7pm. There are lots of fantastic shops offering this late night shopping event so please support us by shopping local and shopping small!

Here’s my opening hours for the week ahead:
- Wednesday 18th: CLOSED
- Thursday 19th: ***LATE NIGHT SHOPPING - 10-7pm***
- Friday 20th: 10-3pm
- Saturday 21st: 10-3pm

After that I will be enjoying some time off over Christmas but I will be BACK! I’ll be open from Wednesday 8th January 2025 with my usual opening hours of Wednesday through to Saturday 10-3pm.

Oops better post this one as it sold yesterday! Love making these special machine embroidered cushions and I’ll be whizzing away on my machine making a similar one today.

These of course could be personalised with a new home or wedding venue and could have names or a message included - could be really sweet and something a bit different. Could be a great idea for a 2nd wedding anniversary with it being cotton!

I just love robins, their song, their cheeky personalities. I had a lovely little visitor on my walk this morning that has set me up beautifully for the day ahead.

This mixed media piece is currently in the shop and looking for a special home. I know robins are for every time of year but there’s something extra special about them at Christmas time don’t you think? And I do believe in signs and synchronicities which is why I love these words.

Well hello! This is me, the face behind the makes. I love creating things. I love textures and colours and combining materials in different ways. I always have an image in my head that I’m then trying to create, sometimes it’s smooth sailing and other times I do have to adapt and see how something turns out. I’m inspired by nature and folklore and enjoy combining artwork and words to try and evoke memories or create a special connection to the piece that resonates for where you are in your life.

“Handmade with love” is such a flippant term, overused and possibly under valued. But for me, I put it on my work because I mean it. Every piece of work is made with my hands (which are an extension of your heart) and through my care and attention to detail and effort each piece is filled with love. And I hear from customers that this can be felt when you come into my shop or stop to look at my window and that is something that fills me with so much joy. I am so grateful to be able to create and sell my work and so a very big thankyou for all of my wonderful customers who support me and allow me to continue doing so. Still happy dancing around the place with sales and commissions and lovely feedback and brought to tears by some of the beautiful commissions I am asked to create. Thankyou!

Hello and happy… Thursday (had to check that one!)

How are we all doing? Phew - it’s all a bit busy this end but always grateful for all my wonderful customers who are supporting my business in all the ways so a big thankyou to you all!

This piece is very difficult to photograph… it’s a beautiful vintage look gold frame with beautiful textures and rich coloured fabrics and peacock feathers. And it’s looking for its forever home!

Hello and happy Saturday, and happy Christmas lights switch on day!

I’m in the shop today, Saturday 30th, 10 till 5.55pm, opening later so that if you come for a stroll before the switch on you’re always welcome to have a browse. Those who do pop in from 3ish are also welcome to come and collect a free colouring sheet with no purchase necessary!

This Winter Foxes piece is sitting proudly in my window looking for its forever home. Beautiful rich fabrics in a stunning vintage frame, I nearly had to find a space to keep this one myself!

Hello and happy Friday!

Here is one of the new pieces from the window - I feel this owl needs a name so suggestions welcome in the comments! A watercolour piece with distressed copper and blue frame.

I’m back open today, Friday 29th, 10-3pm so do pop in. Lots to have a browse and hopefully take your fancy.

Posting this a little earlier than usual as I have loved putting this December window together with all of the twinkly lights and snow. My day was absolutely made when a little one walking past stopped and just said “Woooooww” 🤩🥹 Means the world.

I have also loved putting this window together as I have been saving these 3 new pieces to feature in it. I will be sharing each one individually over the coming days but for now here’s a sneak peak.

I’ve done this window a little earlier in time for the Christmas lights big switch on which is on Saturday at 6pm. I will be opening later than usual on this day just in case you come into town a little earlier and fancy a browse, so my opening hours will be 10-5.55pm on this day (so I can dash out just in time for the lights!)

As a little thankyou for all of your wonderful support over the year I will be offering free colouring sheets on Saturday 30th for anyone that would like to pop in and say hi, no purchase necessary.

Here’s something to brighten up your morning, a beautiful custom order I was asked to create a little while ago for tea pot enthusiast. Lots of special memories and mementos included in this one and I just loved the free rein to make it as bright and colourful as possible. Well, we’re well and truly in autumn now so I thought I’d do a little tour of the shop to see all the new bits and pieces I’ve got here. October has been the launch of mushroom season and they’re springing up everywhere, from watercolour to fabric to brooches and bookmarks. Perfect for the mushroom lovers amongst you. Christmas has also snuck into the shop for those that are organised and already squirrelling pieces away - robins galore and lots of hanging goodies. Everything handmade by me!

I have always had a love for art, craft and design and so I love to keep busy with different projects. After filling my house with lots of my handmade items my husband suggested I started trying to sell some of my makes and White Flamingo was born!

White Flamingo has continued to develop over time and I now focus predominantly on paper, fabric and wood.

Paper: I create a variety of bespoke stationery and wedding invitations. Many originate from hand painted floral designs that are than combined with beautiful font and finished off with special touches such as envelope liners, hand dyed silk ribbons and wax seals. In addition to the invitations I also have a variety of styling items available for hire so why not get in touch to see how I can help you design your special day.

Fabric: I love to use machine embroidery to create artwork and use this technique to create framed artwork and other textile items.
