Ruislip Classical Concerts

Ruislip Classical Concerts Monthly lunchtime classical music recitals performed in St Martin's Church Hall, Ruislip, by pianists Doors open from about 11.45am.

Interested attenders just turn up on the day - the Hall is large, with plenty of seats. There is no ticketing or entrance charge - though we do have a retiring collection to help us pay the pianists and to defray essential concert costs (mainly the hire of the Hall, piano tuning and programme printing). Entrance is through either of the two Lych gates and at that time of day there is free parking

just outside the Church on the Eastcote Road. The Ruislip lunchtime concert series has been running from the mid-1990s. However, concerts were suspended during the last two Covid years. Our series restarted on Wednesday 27 April 2022, when Valentin Schiedermair performed the opening recital of the new series. Each month (except in August and December) we offer a one-hour recital of popular classical piano music played by pianists of exceptional international standing. Our 2023 concert dates (Wednesdays at 12.15pm) and scheduled pianists are:

25 January: Ashley Fripp
22 February: Hao Zi Yoh
29 March: Viv McLean
26 April: Ben Schoeman
31 May: Daniel Lebhardt
28 June: Andrzej Wiercinski and Krzysztof Wiercinski
26 July: Viv McLean (a special concert to raise funds to replace the bass strings on the grand piano)
August - Summer Break (no concert)
27 September: Tommaso Carlini
25 October: Michal Szymanowski
29 November: Renata Konyicska
December - Christmas break

An impressive performance by RENATA KONYICSKA this lunchtime of a delightful Schubert (Impromptus) and Beethoven ('Appassionata') programme, with Chopin's 'Raindrop' Prelude as an encore - especially appropriate on this rainy day. Yet the inclement weather did not deter our audience from attending, or diminish their enthusiasm for Renata's playing. An excellent end to our 2024 series of ten concerts. Andrzej Wierciński returns to perform our next recital at 12.15pm on Wednesday 29 January 2025. In the meantime, we wish all our supporters a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Another impressive lunchtime recital at St Martin's Ruislip today - performed by Danish-Polish pianist FILIP MICHALAK, who played the four advertised Chopin Polonaises (see photo here) preceded by Brahms' Six Pieces Op118. A Chopin waltz encore rounded off our much-appreciated October concert - in the week the piano world is excited by the discovery in the US of an unknown Chopin short waltz score. Our Ruislip audience also enjoyed Filip's informative introductions. Renata Konyicska plays our last recital of 2024, on Wednesday 27 November.

A spectacular lunchtime Ruislip recital today by ANDRZEJ WIERCINSKI who flew in specially from Warsaw. Impressive playing of Chopin, Beethoven ('Moonlight'), Haydn and Liszt on a supremely hot day. A large audience rewarded him with enthusiastic applause and several stayed afterwards to chat with him. Thank you very much, Andrzej. Viv McLean plays our next concert on Wednesday 24 July at 12.15pm.

Another fantastic Ruislip lunchtime piano recital by DMITRY KALASHNIKOV at St Martin's today, with an especially strong performance of Liszt's B- minor piano sonata and Dmitry's selection of Chopin etudes and a nocturne (including his 10/3 Tristesse as an encore). Our audience left happy, on this sunny day. Our next recital is at 12.15pm on Wednesday 26 June, to be played by Andrzej Wiercinski (who has just won the Best Chopin Performance Prize in the Texas International Piano Competition).

An attractive Bach and Chopin lunchtime recital today by RENATA KONYICSKA (piano) rounded off our 2023 successful season of concerts at Ruislip. An impressive performance, in particular, of Chopin's 24 Preludes - with helpful introductions. Many thanks to Renata, and to the other 10 pianists who have entertained our audiences this year (which have numbered between 65 and 85 at each concert, compared with about 40 when we resumed the series last year). Kyle Hutchings plays our next concert on Wednesday 31 January 2024 at 12.15pm.

Returning to Ruislip after 4 years, Italian pianist TOMMASO CARLINI gave an impressive lunchtime recital this afternoon - an enthralling performance of contrasting light and dark sounds and moods. Great works by Liszt, Beethoven, Rachmaninov and Chopin - and a Scarlatti encore to reward the many who came. It was our first recital with the new 32 bass strings, fitted during the summer on the 111 year-old Schiedmayer grand piano. Thank you, Tommaso. Our next recital (by Michal Szymanowski) is on Wedns 25 Nov at 12.15pm.

A very special July Ruislip Classical Concerts recital today - with VIV MCLEAN giving a fundraising performance to help us finance replacement bass strings on our 1912 Schiedmayer grand. Wonderful playing of a beautiful programme, appreciated by a large summer audience. Thanks to CYNRIC RICHARDSON, our piano tuner, who also kindly donated his services today. Our next concert will be by Tommaso Carlini on 27 September.

Andrzej and Krzysztof Wiercinski played another wonderful recital today, of attractive works by Chopin, Beethoven and Bach. For the first time at Ruislip we heard Beethoven's Polonaise and Chopin's Ballade No.2. Many thanks to the Wiercinski brothers, who will return next year. Viv McLean plays our next recital, on Wednesday 26 July at 12.15pm.
