Today is World Optometry Day 2023, with the World Council Of Optometry announcing their theme: Expanding optometry's role... the time is now!

The goal for today is to emphasise optometry's role as a healthcare profession. The WCO wants to "advocate for stronger global access to eyecare and ensure that optometrists around the world have the education and skills to thrive and contribute within their respective healthcare systems."

January is in the USA.

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that gradually steals sight without warning, and often without symptoms. In order to raise awareness, Bausch + Lomb and the Glaucoma Research Foundation have launched the Screen-Protect-Cure campaign and will be sharing resources and information to help individuals better understand glaucoma, the second leading cause of blindness in the world according to the WHO.

60 million people worldwide have glaucoma. When the damage done, it is irreversible: it is therefore hugely important to schedule regular comprehensive eye exams to preserve your eye health, especially if you are in one of the higher-risk categories.

We have been reflecting on our first ever EyecareForum USA, which wrapped up in Austin, Texas shortly before Thanksgiving. We are so appreciative of all those who joined and had such kind words to say about our launch event, including Jinesh Patel and Jim Muniz: watch the video below to hear what they had to say!

We'd also like to say a big thank you to all of the ECPs and vendors who joined us in Texas for 2 days of great conference content, quick-fire networking meetings and some deliciously authentic Texas BBQ! A big thank you to our partners MODO Eyewear and HR for Health for supporting the event.

Menziuso has worked at Johnson & Johnson Vision for 30 years in roles that have also taken him outside of the USA. His career has spanned several different healthcare industries but it is within eyecare where most of his experience lies.
