Our top tips on coping with getting wed in hot weather ☀️🥵

🧊 Have plenty of water and ice stocked with your bar to keep everybody from dehydrating.

🕶 Offer cool down wedding favours - small paper or battery fans, sunglasses, little bottles of sun cream, parasols or comfortable flip flops!

🍷 Minimise drinking - alcohol consumption dehydrates

💋 Consider wearing less make up to stop it from smudging or melting off your face! Keep blotting paper and powder on hand.

👰‍♀️ Choose a flowing, looser wedding dress and ditch the blazers! Or just keep a formal change of clothes for the reception.

🌬 Bring standing air conditioners

📝 Check in with your suppliers and the staff who will be at your wedding and find out what they can do for you and what you can do for them to help everyone cope

You can never guarantee what the weather will be like on your wedding day so play it smart and plan for any kind of weather! Not just rain but high wind, blistering heat and storms 🌩

RAIN ☔️
• Book marquees and tents to provide shelter when outside
• Make sure all the essential parts of your wedding like the ceremony itself and the reception could be moved inside or under shelter
• Offer umbrellas and wellie boots for guests
• Take an umbrella and snap some unique wedding photos!

HOT WEATHER ☀️
• Check if your venue has air conditioning
• Provide plenty of shade
• Have enough ice cold water available at your wedding bar for all the guests and staff in attendance
• Keep your cake cool - Ask your cake maker about protecting it from the heat, certain cakes require more temperate control than others
• Choose wedding flower arrangements that can cope with high heat - ask your florist how to prevent them from wilting on the day

COLD ❄️
• Hire heat lamps/fire pits to keep things warm outside
• Buy a coat or cosy shawl that compliments your wedding dress!
• Have blankets as your wedding favour that guests are welcome to wear at the reception

WINDY / STORMS 🌪
• Have a microphone so the wind doesn’t disrupt any speeches!
• Consider choosing a soundproof venue
• If your wedding is outdoor consider having accessible buildings on site that you can relocate to
• Consider having a backup indoor venue

Planning a wedding without a professional is no easy feat. Here are some of the biggest mistakes you can make:

Booking a venue before you have a guest list 📝

It's important that you have a venue that will fit everyone that shows up to your wedding.

Relying on family and friend’s advice TOO much 🗣

Just because someone has had their own wedding does not mean they know everything about wedding planning nor what you both will want as a couple. Create boundaries.

Poorly managing your budget 💷

Don’t blow your whole budget on one aspect of your wedding. Make sure you can afford all the essentials before looking at more luxurious details.

Having a friend or family member plan the wedding 👩‍👩‍👦

Unless they have experience in event planning the process will become their burden and they will cut corners. We often see friends and family mismanaging budgets, especially when it’s not their money to worry about.

Forgetting the point of a wedding!💞

A wedding is not about the party, it’s about the marriage! Don’t lose sight of WHY you’re doing all of this in the first place.

Wedding favours are the perfect way to thank your guests for attending your wedding and for being a part of your life! They are by no means mandatory - but a lovely generous touch 🛍

If you want to keep it simple we recommend giving each guest a slice of cake to take home or even alcohol miniatures - but if you are interested in something more memorable we have some advice:

1. Keep on theme - Relate the gift back to your wedding. If you have a themed or destination wedding the perfect wedding favour should reflect that. Some examples: sunglasses for a sunny beach wedding, candles for a cosy candle lit theme.

2. Keep it useful - Give a gift that will come in handy! Snacks, a deck of cards or even disposable cameras. Something they can use on the day of your wedding to bring even more entertainment.

3. Keep it YOU - If you and your spouse have a hobby you like to do together or something you both collect then focus the gift around that. Some examples: seeds to represent gardening, customised luggage tags to represent frequent flyers, cocktail kits to represent… well, cocktail drinkers!

4. Keep it creative - For something extra special we suggest DIYing your wedding favours. Work together with your partner to bake some cookies for everyone or make some personalised decorative cards if you’re crafty! This level of care for your attendees is a sure way to make them feel valued with the added bonus of spending extra time with your other half 💕

Where should you start when it comes to wedding flowers? 💐

Setting a budget for flowers, just like every part of your wedding, is incredibly important. They can take up to 15% of your whole budget! Figure out how much you’re willing to allocate for this early on in the planning process.

Once you've picked your venue, pick your flowers! It’s important to have flowers that fit and suit the space. Our top tip to save money on flowers is find a venue that you absolutely love the look of - this way there will be less to cover with decoration.

You can also ask your florist to re-use the flower displays from your ceremony in your reception. Most arrangements can easily be transported and repurposed in a second location. This not only cuts down on cost but waste too!
