We had such varied sessions from @elliottmorrismusic unique guitar style to @kristiinawattmusic soothing classical sounds, @mazoconnormusic heartfelt folk, to @anwenmaiharpist beautiful harp melodies!
Each artist brought so much joy to patients and staff. ❤️

Our brilliant music volunteer, Maria Meyers, represented rb&hArts last week at the HLCC staff forum.
Maria spoke about our partnership with Live Music Now and discussed the impact of music on patient wellbeing in hospitals. 🎵

In our April Crafternoon "Matisse Birds" at Brompton Hospital we cut out and decorated many joyful birds! Patients, visitors and staff members - all cotributed and hopefully the chirpy birds will help the spring to arrive sooner!

Royal Brompton Canteen Open Call for Artists 2024
rb&hArts is delighted to offer a commission to an artist to create a series of artworks for the canteen at Royal Brompton Hospital in Chelsea, London.
The canteen at Royal Brompton Hospital stands out amongst NHS hospitals for the quality of its food. Through this new commission we would like the aesthetic standard of the canteen to mirror the wonderful standard of the food that is served.
This commission is an exciting opportunity to re-brand and refresh the canteen, a busy space used by staff, patients and their families. We are looking for site specific, integrated designs throughout the space.
rb&hArts is committed to co-creation, and we would like an artist to work directly with canteen users (staff, patients and visitors) through a creative process that will influence the conception of the final work of art.
All artworks should be appropriate for a hospital setting and cannot contain nudity or offensive images.

Bringing a fresh twist to Baroque music, Apollo's Cabinet, a duo of international competition winners Harry Buckoke (playing the Viola da Gamba) and Tom Pickering (playing the Recorder and Flute), captivated RBH wards this week with their rendition of Paul's Steeple!🎻 🎶
One patient said 'I was really depressed at 1pm today and, having listened to Tom and Harry, I now feel great. I videoed their playing and if I feel sad again I will listen to their music to brighten my spirits. It has made day!

We had the fab James Bramley and his Theorbo at RBH yesterday. His calming music uplifted spirits and provided comfort to patients during their stay - 'I have an operation tomorrow and I've been worrying all morning. @rudyjaykora also sings! Having studied the 22-string harp that is the Kora and Music at SOAS university and specialised in West African music he is a multitalented performer.
Rudy performs traditional repertoire dating back many centuries as well as his own compositions which are inspired by the master Kora players of Senegal, Gambia and Mali. One patient said "You get sucked into the music, your playing is amazing!"

We had a great day at Harefield Hospital with a professional harpist Mark Levin playing his own arrangements of beloved tunes.
Patients and visitors were visibly moved by the healing and relaxing sound of the harp! It brought lots of smiles and eased the atmosphere. We visited the Anzac reception, HDU unit, as well as transplant wards!
Thanks for the beautiful arrangements of famous songs from the repertoire by The Cure, The Beatles, Abba...and many more!

Cooking up a musical feast! Though Rudy trained as a professional chef specialising in Middle Eastern and East Asian cuisine we are grateful he now focuses his time on playing the West African 22 string Kora for us on the wards at Royal Brompton Hospital 🎵
One patient said "The music was beautiful no one has serenaded me in 100 years". We look forward to hearing more from him next week.
