The club was originally founded by Conan Corrigan, who moved to London as a cash-strapped Liverpudlian looking for work in the early 90’s. In early summer 1994 and with limited funds, Conan opened Strawberry Sundae at Maximus, Leicester Square. After only a few events, moved to Sub Club, a low ceiling venue below the famous ‘Cats’ musical on Drury Lane, opening at midnight on Saturday night and ru

nning through till midday on Sunday. The club proved extremely popular with late night revellers, looking for a relaxed, unpretentious and affordable after party and very quickly outgrew its original home. Vauxhall’s Goding Street arches was the club’s next destination in May 1995. Corrigan hired buses to take his queue from Drury Lane to Vauxhall on the opening night to keep the club’s following. The club continued to grow and again reached well over capacity after only a few weeks. In December 1995, the club moved into two enormous railway arches opposite the MI5 building on Albert Embankment. The hedonistic atmosphere and relaxed door policy, coupled with cutting edge, up-front house music put Cloud 9 and Strawberry Sundae firmly on London’s clubbing landscape for many years. Up to 2000 people would attend weekly, queuing long before opening time and staying right through till closing time at 6am when they would hear the club’s signature closing track, Tall Paul’s ‘Rock da House’ — a tune that is still the club’s anthem today. In 1997, the three room complex ‘Coliseum’ (also in Vauxhall) was a big change for the club. Strawberry Sundae added a garage room and an old skool room and again, regularly met capacity. In the summer season 1999, while still maintaining weekly events in London, Strawberry Sundae held nights at the world famous Ibiza venue ‘Es Paradis Terrenal’. On Millennium eve, the club held a one-off event in Streatham, headlined by The Rhythm Masters. The club then moved north of the river to The Rocket, Holloway in early 2000. This proved unpopular with regulars and the club was forced to close. Except for a few, exclusive nights held in the Stables Market in Camden in 2004, this legendary club night remained closed to its followers for the next 21 years. Resident DJ’s –
