Right from her album release on our record label, Danish experimental pop artist comes to London to present her debut UK live concert at 💫

✨28.9.23

is an artist, singer and producer based in Copenhagen. With an equal love for experimental composition, literature and pop music Juhl often works in between art forms. Inspired by artists such as Laurie Anderson, Solange and M.I.A., she explores what songwriting can be in the 21st century.

Karen released her debut album Mother Tongue on this September - described as a deeply personal and forward-thinking mix of contemporary R&B, leftfield pop and experimental electronica album showcases her love to literature, experimental sound design and songwriting. The album was released as an Art Book created by Karen Juhl in collaboration with graphic designer . It combines the album's lyrics with digital collages. The printed matter stitches together a new narrative on its own terms, transferring the album's dynamic range to the graphics.

Introducing a choreographer, dancer and performer Chen Yin who will present her new contemporary dance piece:

"soliloquy of a fly"

🐑 🎀 𝒜𝒷 𝓊𝓉 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝓅𝒾𝑒𝒸𝑒: ⋆ 🎀 🐑

a fly has been talking to itself
its body and wings excited by the changes of sound
eat if in hunger
run if being full
lie down if feeling tired

a person sleeps in the bed
annoyed by the noises around in the air
one quick clap
the soliloquy of a fly stops

🐢 🎀 𝒜𝒷❀𝓊𝓉 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝒶𝓇𝓉𝒾𝓈𝓉: 🎀 🐢

is a Chinese, Bristol-based choreographer, dancer and performer. She holds an MA in Dance from Bath Spa University. Chen considers her creative process as ramification, i.e. diverging like the stem and limbs of a plant into smaller ones. Encounters of her body with daily life and rendezvous between dance and other creative practices constantly stimulate further growth. Recently, she has been investigating the relationship between dance improvisation and sounds, especially human voices. She has also been incorporating installation art into her work.

Danish composer and songwriter Karen Juhl releases her anticipated album today 22/9/23 on Congrats 🧚‍♂️

The album is a sonic hybrid of R'n'B, rap, experimental composition, and folklore. Juhl's lyrics connect childhood scenes with the psychiatric ward and internet rooms, creating a fragmented yet meditative reflection on fragility in a hyper-globalized world. Juhl's writing process for the album was influenced by a personal life crisis and a desire to let lyrics inform the sonics. ”I brought diary notes and prose poems with me into the studio and worked on vocals in a stream of consciousness kind of way.” Karen Juhl

The artbook, created in collaboration with graphic designer Paw Poulsen, combines the album's lyrics with digital collages. The printed matter stitches together a new narrative on its own terms, transferring the album's dynamic range to the graphics. Juhl aims to create a space outside the digital realm, exploring the intertwining of personal and shared narratives.

We cannot wait to have a London based choreographer and dance artist, Alejandra Gissler to present her new solo contemporary dance piece: ‘Hold the wall, an exercise of soft confrontation’

🐑 🎀 𝒜𝒷 𝓊𝓉 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝓅𝒾𝑒𝒸𝑒: ⋆ 🎀 🐑

While indulging in physical resistance, I meet multiple surfaces, and I use my body as a territory for encounter. I decide to touch the space and reach for a relying wall through soft movement and a disoriented verticality. This is a journey towards the marginal edges of a room, exploring how movement belongs to the creases and edges of the space.

Alejandra Gissler is a London-based Latin American multidisciplinary dance artist and facilitator working at the intersection of ecology, participatory work, and performance.
