What kind of year will the Year of the Dragon be?

In 2024, it will be the Year of the Wood Dragon (Kinoe Tatsu) according to the Japanese zodiac. According to the principles of Yin and Yang and the Five Elements, 'Kinoe' symbolises the growth of plants, much like plants flourishing. Therefore, the Year of the Wood Dragon in 2024 is expected to be a year where the efforts made in the previous years will bear fruit and lead to fulfilment.

Why are there dragons at Temples and Shrines in Japan?
The Japanese dragon is regarded as a deity of water and the sea. It symbolises the powerful forces of nature, causing phenomena like tornadoes and thunder. As you may know, water is the source of life for all living beings. Water, connecting life, is considered precious and sacred in Shinto, believed to purify impurities and negative energy. It has been believed that the appearance of a dragon brings good luck. It is also a custom that people purify themselves by washing their hands when visiting the shrines and temples.

It was a pleasure working with Canon Medical Systems Europe and Sense Medical Limited team!

Canon is a well-known Japanese company that sells good-quality cameras. But, did you know they produce state-of-the-art OCT cameras to scan your eyes? We also didn’t know that so many machines are available from many different companies. That means the machine’s quality and performance differ from optician to optician.

We brought Japan into 100% Optical at ExCeL London !

The customers were treated to the ever-so-popular Japanese snacks & Sake served by the kimono ladies and moved by the amazing performance by Zashiki Warashi,
At our calligraphy table, the customers were excited about finding out what their name means in Japanese. Many loved it so much that they said they will frame it.

Did you know shrines in Japan have different gods?

The shrine is known as a football shrine where many athletes including professional football players come here to pray for health and success.

I was amazed to see this modern and artistic building creating harmony next to historical buildings.

If you’re planning to visit studio Ghibli park, you should save and check this place out. It only takes about 15 minutes by car!

Now that travelling to Japan is possible, are you planning a trip to Japan?

You can travel to Hakone, The famous onsen district from Tokyo for a day trip. You can either hire a car or Get on a direct train from Tokyo.

TENZAN onsen is famous for higaeri onsen Where you can enjoy onsen without having to book a room.

They have this community room where people can relax after enjoying a variety of bath. You will feel you’re very close to nature as there are no windows and you can just listen to this soothing river sound and doze off... I visited there in the height of summer, but if you visit there in autumn, you will be forest bathing surrounded by beautiful red autumn leaves 🍁🍂

This idilic hanami (Cherry Blossom viewing) river is in Kawagoe - a city known for little Edo.

☝️Local attraction
🍠Kawagoe is famous for its sweet potatoes, and the local "Candy Street" sells such treats as sweet potato chips, sweet potato ice cream, sweet potato coffee, and even sweet potato beer, brewed at the local Coedo Brewery. Some of its streets preserve the old castle town of the Edo period (17th to 19th centuries).

🍭Confectionery Row (菓子屋横丁, Kashiya Yokochō) is a small backstreet alley where a dozen stores sell old-fashioned cheap sweets and snacks, most of which are priced at less than 50 yen.

🏯Kurazukuri Street (蔵造りの町並み, Kurazukuri no machinami) is lined with traditional warehouses constructed in a style called kurazukuri (蔵造り) and maintains the style of the Edo period.

The area has historical events through out the year and is less than an hour away from Tokyo.
