Our Story

Dan Mela, alias Daniele Schito, is a well known italian-canadian dj and producer, very much appreciated in the independent dance scene thanks to his productions.

Dan, from 2015 is part of RUDAN dj duo with Okee Ru; They won Dimensions Festival's Vinyl Mix 2016 Project Competition and performed on the Beach Stage of the festival in 2016 and 2017.They are the head & Djs of "Adults Only +25" Party South Italy based, that it is now attracting DJs from all over the world. Among others, the party has so far hosted Sadar Bahar, Daniele Baldelli, Red Greg, Lakuti, Tama Sumo, LTJ X-Perience, The Grasso Brothers, DCDJ Soulmind. Passionate experimenter of JFS (his personal acronym for the fusion of jazz, funk & soul), Dan Mela joined the world music very soon, beginning to perform for the major House Music underground clubs already in 1990. He's one of the founder djs of legendary Metropolis (Lecce/Italy), renowned club which already in 1992 has hosted important artists such as Carl Craig, Marshall Jefferson and all the best italian dance acts. Moved to Modena in 1995, immediately began a fruitful collaboration with DiscoInn, one of the major italian specialized vinyl store, and soon became a music consultant for the best known italian djs. His first productions, composed between '98 and '99, immediately took wing and received a strong reaction also in the United States, at that time unchallenged country for its 12 inches productions. Back from this results, in 2001 he founded its first record label, called Streetvibes (distributed by Downtown, NYC), which launched the club hits “Ritmo da Rua” (produced in collaboration with dj Uovo & Luca Trevisi, over 7000 copies sold, also thanks to the lucky remix of Brian Tapper), “In Memory Of” and the outstanding “Re-Troit”, which become a classic that Compost Records (Monaco, DE) decided to re-press on vinyl after 5 years from the official release (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlyIeqKSzts).

In the same years, began a thriving musical partnership with the jazz pianist Stefano Calzolari, with whom he contaminated 1900s music in many theatre performances, and with whom he composed also soundtracks for important italian fashion brand advertisements such as Diesel, Mandarina Duck, Nike, Lee (http://vimeo.com/16508304). Furthermore, in 2011 they have performed at the Blue Note in Milan. Dan has experienced influences and contaminations with many important jazz musicians: Christopher Thomas, Marco Micheli , Joyce E.Yuile, Amedeo Ar**no, Dario Deidda, Lele Barbieri, Felice del Gaudio, Daniele Moretto, Alessio Nava, Paolo Mozzoni. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeU-tsTtwtk He has also produced for the Compost Records, leading record label which has launched important performers such as Jazzanova, Koop, Trueby Trio, Roland Appeal, Christian Prommer, as well as Drumpoet Community, Sony UK, Ethereal Sound and Irma. Among most valuable co-productions and collaborations with Andrea Gemolotto. Polyhedral craftsman of music, restless and prolific artist, Dan is attracted by the simple and complicated things at the same time and this approach led him to choose with care and feeling his records when he dj. He has always wandered in music in general, from Deep House to Disco, from Old School Music of Detroit and Chicago to Electronic and Techno. As a producer, almost never wanting to repeat and always trying to make music that could be consumed over time and not for temporary mode. In this mood, he founded in 2012 his new record label, What Ever Not (WordandSound distribution |Berlin,DE), with his mate Dodi Palese, which immediately gave life to important collaborations with Vakula, S***f Crew and Marcello Napoletano Toby Tobias, Alex Israel, Morning Factory, Lady Blacktronika, Anton Zap, Chevel, D’Marc Cantu.
