I'm setting up this GoFundMe on behalf of the events and acting industry. I first had the pleasure of working with Richard and his lovely wife Helen around 10 years ago. The couple have been an integral part of the industry, not only through their work but also through their constant support to others.
Unfortunately, Richard has an incurable cancer and the fund aims to raise money to help support them through this difficult time of chemotherapy and numerous hospital visits. Richard is being incredible and is giving this all he's got whilst still maintaining his wonderful sense of humour.
We all know that working in this industry can be difficult when you can't work, but for Helen, Richard's wife, the situation has already been a challenging one, she has also battled breast cancer herself in recent years. Thankfully, her recovery was successful, but it was an incredibly difficult time for the family and they now face the reality of cancer again.
Richard Banks- "Please don't mistake my bravura regarding my situation for being delusional.
This is not a battle I'm going to win. The cancer will take me down, but it will be a score draw because as Joe put it when I die the cancer will die with me.
In the meantime, I will carry on with my life as normally as possible and for as long as I possibly can.
More and more of us are being affected by cancer, losing those we hold dear far too soon in many cases.
I'm sitting here having my chemo as are several others, too many, but we're the tip of the iceberg, we're the one's with it, and it's our loved ones that are suffering. That's the pain that hurts the most.
I refuse to succumb and be a victim, I will no doubt have my weak moments. But for as long as I can I will not feel sorry for myself."
Richard and Helen have supported so many people in the events and acting industry and have created a family of lifelong friends and now it's time for us to show our support for them
