🦯 Charles Darwin’s walking stick: the stick features a skull with two glass green eyes. Darwin called his stick his ‘morituri’, a type of ‘memento mori’.

👺 A unique Bolivian Mask made of papier-mâché by artist René Flores Ordoñez made for the dance of the devils, part of the annual carnival celebration in Oruro (Bolivia).

🗿 Turner prize winner Antony Gormley’s statue of his own body.

The CNN team in action during their shoot for “Saved by the Future” at our Galleries. Saved by the future is a TV series presented by Nicki Shields focussing on breakthrough innovations in science and technology that could transform our lives in the future.

Although the location was originally only the Reading Room, the crew felt it would be great to capture our bespoke spiral staircase as a backdrop too. Currently due to our venue being closed to the public, we are able to offer you a variety of such spaces to match your brief.

Today (17th March) marks exactly one year since the doors to Wellcome Collection closed and the venue hire team pivoted to working remotely from home. We had received a message from management on the closure of the Wellcome buildings for a period of 3 months and we still remember how long that timeframe felt. Little did we know that a whole year on, we would still be working away from the meeting, conference and event spaces that we so love and from the clients and suppliers with whom we have spent years of building a meaningful and strong working relationship.


Over the past year, much like most office teams across the UK we’ve turned to technology to keep us connected with each other and our clients. By this we’ve retained our strong team bonds and our sanity. Our online team meetings comprised of a regular Friday music quiz, tv & movie recommendations, online escape rooms, craft and baking creations, laughter, tears and everything in between. Through what has been a tough year for many (our team being no exception), we’ve kept in touch with each other and our clients, ensuring our support and looking forward to getting back to doing what we love as soon as it’s safe and possible to do so. Until that time comes (which looks like it will be sooner rather than later) we’re marking the one-year anniversary of working from home by sharing this picture with you of our team, taken at the last time we were all able to be together: a late summer picnic last year. We’ll all see each other (and you) in person again very soon.

Good News 🚨

The Roadmap published by the government last week has given the an idea of when events may resume in England. There are many reasons to feel positive about starting to plan those face to face events we miss so much, and we are offering more incentives to do so (make sure you check the bottom ⬇️ of this post)

Here is a reminder of the four milestones

◽️After 8th March at the earliest:
Weddings for up to six guests allowed

◽️After 12th April at the earliest:
Weddings and receptions will be able to take place with up to 15 attendees (in premises that are permitted to open).
Pilot events can commence

◽️From 17 May at the earliest:
Weddings and receptions can proceed with up to 30 attendees.

A broader range of stand-alone life events will also be permitted at this step, including bar mitzvahs and christenings.

Some large events, including conferences, theatre and concert performances and sports events.

Controlled indoor events of up to 1,000 people or 50% of a venue’s capacity, whichever is lower, will be permitted, as will outdoor events with a capacity of either 50% or 4,000 people, whichever is lower.

◽️From 21 June at the earliest:
With appropriate mitigations in place remove all legal limits on social contact, reopen nightclubs and enable large events, theatre performances, and remove all limits on weddings and other life events

We are very much looking forward to seeing our lovely clients again. We are getting our rooms in to shape to welcome everyone to a fresher, more stimulating venue when the time is right.
