Next week THE TAGLI present ‘Somatechnics’

A group exhibition that will delve into the multifaceted concept of ‘the body’ as a site of technological, ethical, and political discourse. It will present fresh perspectives on how bodies interact with, resist, and are shaped by power structures and technological advancements.

From the spatial dynamics of identity and race to the politics of reproduction, gender, and sexuality, ‘Somatechnics’ is an exploration of the body in all its forms. An accompanying text to the exhibition will be written by Bella Bonner-Evans

Next week see’s LA-based British artist Jeremy Kidd, grandson of Barbara Hepworth, return to London for his latest solo show ‘Homecoming’ at Noho Showrooms.

The show will comprise of his large-scale digital photographic urbanscapes, selected dramatic American landscapes; his new body of work Climatic Temporal Shifts of the Sublime; and earlier still life’s.

Kidd’s portfolio embodies photography, installation art, sculpture, and digital works.

He is widely recognized as the creator of day-through-night photography where he combines sculptural elements and condenses up to 100 long-exposure photographs into a single work. Kidd believes this to be a more cohesive way of expressing a landscape pictorially. It allows him to explore movement and condenses time, allowing him to exemplify the transcendental in both the urban and natural landscape. This enables him to combine different times of day/night into one piece, exploring a scene for up to several weeks in each work. The results are grand-scale photomontages, often animated and accompanied by transcendental electronic music composed by Kidd, a talented musician.

Opening this weekend >> Taymour Grahne Projects presents ‘The Look Back’ - an off-site solo show by Texas-based artist RF Alvarez, opening to the public on September 22

“In the Greek myth of Orpheus, the heroic poet falls in love with a nymph, Eurydice. She is fatally bitten by a snake, and is relegated to eternity in the underworld. In this moment, we witness the perfection of marriage being interrupted by pain.

RF. Alvarez interprets Orpheus’ journey as an attempt not to solve grief, but to comprehend it. The Texas-based painter’s new show, titled “The Look Back”, is bred from a similar instinct to reconcile himself to the loss of innocence that comes from growth’s requisite knowing, and the hardship inherent to its concomitant understandings of the world, self and love.”

Accompanying the exhibition is a limited edition book with a text by Emily R. Pellerin ()

Back in 2022 our friend and all round good egg put on her last show stopping solo show ‘Burn’ at Noho Studios (images featured from the private view evening).

Her latest exhibition CONFLAGRATION has just opened and runs until the 23rd June. Anyone for a day trip to the East Coast?

Note from the artist:

“Conflagration is a culmination of works inspired by drawings and paintings created on the jungle floor, the tops of the canopies; from my imagination, from memories. They mark the moment that we face. A very daunting and disheartening one, but not one without hope.
This work is a lens through which I have focused my fear, anger and frustration. Unchecked, our reckless exploitation and pollution of the Natural World has gathered pace. Like the forest fire, we are laying waste to fragile and precious ecosystems. Our horizons are red and there is smoke in the air.”
