Neil Kelso at UNESCO
🇺🇳
I am very deeply honoured to have been invited to speak at the headquarters of UNESCO about my work as a multidisciplinary artist. This is a pic of me in full-flow giving examples from my work, and discussing innovation, diversity, inclusive approaches, and tools for better collaborative mentalities.
🇺🇳
As part of UNESCO ’s Roadmap against Racism and Discrimination, this international Forum is a sharing of examples of good practice in challenging the stagnant inequalities within our societies, and fostering positive change locally and globally through Unesco and in partnership with NGOs and other major change-makers. It is the most inspiring and exciting place, and so much amazing work is being done to end injustices and make the world a safer, kinder, more peaceful, and more beautiful place. It’s a network of brilliant people and innovative initiatives all around the world and the positive changes they’re achieving in often the most challenging environments is absolutely astonishing. Education, science, culture, sports, and the arts all have such a vital role to play today to make tomorrow better for everyone.
🇺🇳
I am deeply moved by the stories and examples that are being shared and the work being done. Being featured amongst these people is amongst my proudest achievements. Old friends and new friends, all allies in a revolution of compassion and inclusiveness. These people have unlocked something in me too and I have a feeling this is only the beginning. I am so very grateful to them. Humans really are endlessly amazing when they choose to be.

The lovely Mat Ricardo has shared an excellent video which is well worth a watch and a share.

Having been on a similar script-reviewing journey myself some years ago, and having had this conversation with a lot of performers since, I know it’s a really important subject that deserves a nuanced explanation that gently unpicks the subject. So it’s really really great to have such a succinct, engaging, and friendly video to share with anyone new to this important topic!

Thank you Mat! ❤️

ABOUT THE SHOW
Our team of Arts Professionals go out onto the Fringe, see hundreds of shows, the best of which are invited onto Mervyn Stutter's Pick of the Fringe. Each perform a short extract from their show and then they are interviewed by Mervyn for five minutes to embellish and inform more about their piece. Having seen a wonderful 90 minute 'Royal Variety' type show, the audience can also select those that they have liked and, if they choose, buy tickets to see the whole show.

Chopin’s “Raindrop” prelude has got a special place in my heart. I first learned it around 2001 (which rather alarmingly is 21 years ago).

The music of Chopin is incredibly emotive to me. The process of playing it is also lovely because somehow he found ways for it to always sits so beautifully in the hands. The dance that the fingers perform to create the sound is just as pleasing to me as the music itself.

The sound isn’t perfect as it’s just filmed on a phone, but I love seeing the keys from this angle, with the reflection in the polished lid.

I’m currently on an amazing journey creating my Sounds Impossible show. It delves deep into why music, pianos, soundtracks, and vibrations of all kinds are so magical.

You can see it (and hear it) in Edinburgh, London or Southampton. Find out more here: www.NeilKelso.Co.uk/si

My birthday is coming round soon, and that means that for 30 years now, I have been playing piano (yes, I started playing piano at minus-nine-years-old).
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
When I sit down at the piano, time stands still, and I get taken to all sorts of beautiful and strange places I’ve never been before. And every piano is different. They all have their own personality, and they all tell stories in different ways. It’s real magic.

This weekend I was bringing magic and music to the legendary Gin House Burlesque - it’s always such a fabulous show with so many of my favorite human beings, in a totally marvellous setting, creating an immersive adventure through a burlesque and cabaret wonderland, for brilliant audiences.

The amazing Missy Fatale, Jolie Papillon and Miss Betsy Rose have created such a magical event - it’s an honour to be part of it. Every night is totally beautifully unique.

I am thrilled that I will be back to join them again for the July shows, so grab yourself a ticket asap because it often sells out.

Thank you Andrew Green aka PictureCornerWheels for this spectacularly mysterious photo!
